Reasons For The Collapse Of The Berlin Wall

After Germany lost World War II, the US, the Soviet Union, France, and England divided up control of Germany. The Soviet Union got the eastern side and the US, France, and England got the western side. On August 13, 1961, the Berlin Wall was built separating the eastern half of Berlin from the western half of Berlin. The wall became a symbol of the Soviet’s Iron Curtain and them instilling more control over its section of Germany. The US, France, and England were furious by the building of a wall because the original plan was for all of them to stabilize Germany and eventually withdraw their occupation. When the Berlin wall was taken down on November 9, 1989, people were celebrating its demise. The collapse of the Berlin Wall marked the end
of an era because the Berlin Wall was a key symbol of Soviet Union Iron Curtain and with its collapsed symbolized a weakening Soviet Union.
