There is scientific evidence of the benefits to using marijuana. There is a massive tax revenue potential. The use of recreational marijuana doesn’t prove to be any more dangerous than the use of cigarettes or alcohol. So, I’m left to wonder why it’s really not being legalized. Is there some other reason? Could it be because the pharmaceutical industry is a multi-billion dollar industry per year? Are the pharmaceutical companies at the root of keeping marijuana illegal because they don’t want to go broke? It is my believe that this plays a big part in keeping marijuana illegal. It’s a valid question that I believe all United States citizens should be asking themselves, especially now with the costs of healthcare and prescription costs that are causing good, hard-working people to go bankrupt. In conclusion, I believe all of my evidence supports valid reasons for the legalization of marijuana. The medical benefits alone should be enough to convince our government that it should be legalized. The scientific evidence, monetary rewards and reduction in crime rates, as experienced by the state of Colorado, all serve as proof that the legalization of recreational marijuana is not negative. The United States is a democracy, not a dictatorship. It’s time for our government to act
