Recalibrating Your Gay-dar:
Drawing the Line between Vanity and Homosexuality
Imagine a well-groomed male in a fashionable outfit on an ordinary day – neat and polished, more than the average guy. What’s the common reaction? “He’s definitely gay.” Without taking a second look, you have established that that person is gay, but did you ever consider the possibility of a very masculine style icon walking in your midst?
It is natural for a person to be judgmental by looks, especially when the subject is a stranger. Unfortunately, a lot of misjudgments have labeled the unsuspecting straight man as a homosexual. So, although the gay population is growing, the knowledge separating the men from the ex-men is diminishing. And because of that, less and less men try to make themselves look good just for the sake of looking good in fear of having their manhood taken away by the eyes of passersby.
To clear the fog that has settled on the line separating the homosexuals and the self-conscious men (metrosexuals), this paper aims to create guidelines based on pooled observations on the physical features – actions, expressions, etc by interviewing self-proclaimed metrosexuals and self-proclaimed gays.
