Recent World Cup
Today I will be talking about the Fifa World Cup! The FIFA world cup is a soccer tournament held every four years. It is the most prestigious soccer championship. The equivalent of the World Cup is ice hockey in the Olympics. Players play on their regular league teams, then during the Olympics or World Cup; players may be chosen to represent their country.
The World Cup has thirty-two teams. Teams all over the world compete in qualification matches. The thirty-two teams that qualify are randomly divided into eight divisions with four teams in each division. Each team will face every team in their division once, for a total of three games each. A team gets three points for a win, one point for a tie and no points for a loss. After the three games, the points are totaled up and the top two teams in each division moves on to round two. If there is a tie when the points are totaled up, the team with the most goals scored gets the extra tie-breaking point.
During round two there are sixteen teams left in the tournament. It is predetermined that the winner of a division will face the second place team of another division, starting a tournament bracket. There is only one match per team in this round. If the match is a tie, the two teams will go to a shootout and whoever scores the most goals in five shots, wins the game. The winner proceeds to round three.
Round three has eight teams remaining. This round is the same as the previous round except with fewer teams. Each team has one match and the winner continues to the next round. The same rules as in round two apply if there is a tie.
Round four has the final four teams. If a team wins they move on to the championship game. If they lose, they will go into the constellation match for third place.
Brazil has won a total of five world cups, which is the most of any country. Following behind Brazil is Italy and Germany with three apiece; Uruguay and Argentina with two each and France and England have captured the

The largest hockey league in the world is the National Hockey League. The league was introduced in 1917, and originally had only five teams. Today it has grown to far greater proportions, now boasting 30 teams, each with an 82 game season, and if a team makes the playoffs, there can be up to another 28 games played on top of that. "The NHL is an elite league that houses only the best players from around the world" (History). The rules used in the NHL are generally used as the standard all over the world. Each game consists of three 20 minute periods, with an intermission between each period. If at the end of this 60 minute game there is a tie, there shall be an additional 5 minute overtime period during season play. If a tie is reached during a post season game, the game will enter a series of 20 minute overtimes, which will only come to an end when one of the teams scores.…

Modern day hockey is a very high paced high action game. The NHL is comprised of 30 different teams from Canada and the USA. In the NHL there are 6 Canadian and 24 American Teams. The 30 teams get split into two conferences of 15 teams; each conference is split into three divisions of five teams. Each team has an 82 regular season schedule. The top 8 teams from each conference move on to the playoffs also known as the “post-season”. In the playoffs there are best of seven series, your opponent is matched from your regular season standings. In the playoffs there are three twenty minute periods and a five on five twenty minute overtime session if the two teams are still tied after regulation. That differs from the regular season because a tie is broken with a five minute overtime period with four players a side. If the tie is not broken after the five minutes the game moves into a shootout where the team with the most goals after three shooters wins the game. If the winner is still not decided the shootout moves into sudden death. The goals, assists and points leader of all time is held by likely the most inspiring hockey player of all time, Wayne Gretzky. Wayne is also known as his well deserved nickname “The Great One”. Wayne’s number 99 was retired by the NHL…

When the game was first created there weren't really any rules on how the game was supposed to be played, now there are rules that players must obey. Those rules have changed over the years, though the basics have stayed relatively the same. For example, when playing there is a certain number of players allowed on each team that can be playing at once. And when a player is eliminated from the game, he is only able rejoin the game if it doesn't exceed the number of players allowed on the court at one time. Also, when players reenter the game, they must do so in the same order that they were eliminated in.…

This paper was written to take a look at both sides of the stop and frisk program. By examining both sides I hope to show the effectiveness of the program, but not to leave out the possible negative effects also. There is no doubt that this program has gain a lot of negative attention, the main controversial issue at hand is that the people feel that it gives the cops to much authority to stop anyone they can. This program is to believe that it is a way to make cities more safe, but the ones’ that are mostly stopped are African-American and Latino young men and they feel that the program is a way for the cops to use it for racial profiling. Not only is it used for profiling, but these people believe…

A player couldn't run with the ball. The player threw it from the spot that he caught it, allowing for a man running at good speed to catch the ball. Next, the ball was held in or between the hands. No shouldering, holding, pushing, striking or tripping of an opponent was allowed in any way. The first person to break this rule received a foul and the second would disqualify him until the next goal is made or, if there was proof of wanting to injure the person, they were disqualified for the whole game and no substitution was allowed. If either team had three consecutive fouls, it would be counted as a goal for the opposite team. A goal was made when the ball was thrown or batted from the ground, into the baskets and stayed there. When the ball was thrown out of bounds, it was thrown into the field and played by the first person that touched it. When this happened, the player was given five seconds to get it to one of his teammates before the ball was turned over to the opposite team. If there was a dispute about who got the ball, the umpire would throw it straight into the field. The umpire was the judge of the men and noted the player’s fouls and notified the referee when three consecutive fouls were made. The umpire also had the power to disqualify any players according to above rules. The game was played with two fifteen-minute halves with a five minute rest in between. Whichever team had the most goals made at the end of the game…

    Basketball

Overview: Basketball is a team sport consisting of two teams of five players each trying to score by advancing the ball up the court by dribbling or passing and then shooting a ball through a hoop elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular floor called the court, and there is a hoop at each end. The game starts at the middle of the court and is called the tip off. The referee tosses the ball in the air in between two players (one from each team), and the players try to tip it to one of their teammates who are circled around them. The team that wins the tip off will get the ball to start the 3rd quarter, and the opposing team will get the ball to start the 2nd and 4th quarters. The game is split into quarters, each quarter lasting 8 minutes. The court is divided into two main sections by the mid-court line. If the offensive team puts the ball into play behind the mid-court line (half court), it has ten seconds to get the ball over the mid-court line. If it doesn't, then the defense gets the ball. Once the offensive team gets the ball over the mid-court line, it can no longer have possession of the ball in the area in back of the line. If it does, the defense is awarded the ball. Each shot made is worth two points, unless the shooter is behind the three point line, then they are awarded three points. When a player is fouled in the act of shooting, he will go to the free throw line to shoot free throws. If the player made the shot and gets fouled, the shot counts and he is awarded one free throw attempt. If he misses the shot while fouled, he gets two free throw attempts unless he was shooting outside the three point line, then he is awarded three attempts. Each free throw made counts as one point for the offensive team. After a foul or a made shot, the opposing team gains possession of the ball and has five seconds to pass it in from out of bounds. After a jump ball the team with the possession arrow will…
