INTRODUCTION
Running Shoes: What to Look For
One great aspect of running is it requires hardly any gear. You need comfortable, weather-appropriate athletic clothes and you need SHOES. But not just any shoes – you need quality running shoes made with your health in mind. If you jog or run regularly for exercise, the repetitive muscle and joint movements can be taxing on your body, whether you're in high school or well past retirement age. The right shoes can protect you from injury and help you meet your fitness goals.
While you may be tempted to choose a running shoe based solely on appearance, fitness experts strongly caution against doing so. Legitimate running shoes are each built for a specific foot type. Before you pick out a shoe, be sure to learn whether your foot rolls inside or outside when you run – this is called pronation – and see which shoes are made for a runner like you. Look for a shoe with the right emphasis on stability, cushioning and comfort.
STATEMENT and EXPLANATION OF THE RECOMMENDATION
Manufacturers offer running shoes for every type of gait. Running shoes will help keep you going for longer. They’ve been designed to offer added support for running versus simple walking activities, which means you won’t feel the stress of running as much on your feet. The point in all this is that this information is to be used as a guide in helping make an informed decision. If you are not sure what category you are, or if your current choice is not working, get an expert opinion.
