Being a part of the military automatically gives you honor and confidence. Christine Steigelman, a fifth grade teacher whose family is in the military, agrees that the military recruiters should be in schools. The officers and the military wear honor on their uniforms (1). Teachers and staff see first hand the impact officers have on the students. The students have great opportunities when they know what they want to do. Like letting the military into the schools can open a boy/girls eyes who likes the military. The military just being in the schools are beneficial to the kids. Steigelman also says the armed forces has benefits like free education, travel anywhere in the world, and honor for the country and for him/herself(1). The military offering free education to the students is extremely beneficial to the students who need it the most. Traveling anywhere around the world is a nice perk to have when you need to go places on plane rides. Saying you are a part of the military, whichever branch whether it is the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, or Air Force, you walk with honor and that is something that cannot be taken away from you. That encourages students to finish high school. Having recruiters in schools will help students discover new options and have more opportunities after they graduate. Douglas Smith, a US Army recruiting commander, states “Recruiters also visit schools to inform educators about the services the military has to offer to all students, even those not interested in the military” (1). The recruiters do not only inform the students. They also educate the staff and teachers. They may not be interested in the military but the information could be useful to them. Educators knowing this knowledge could really benefit the students who are interested in the military. They can have someone to talk to and help answer questions for the students. The recruiters cannot be in schools every single day. Having someone there helping and answering questions for the students will greatly benefit them. Recruiters show up to schools with pull up bars and prizes. That will motivate kids to approach the information table to ask questions and schedule an appointment to speak to him privately one on one. Usually, the recruitment officer will be straight up with you. I recently went into a Marine Corps recruitment office and the recruiter, Sgt. Chappelle was really friendly.
