Process of Recycling Newspaper
Recycling is a process converting waste product into new products. Recycling is an important activity which all humans in this world should participate in. Recycling is one of the steps that help this world reduce pollution, as well as consumption of raw material. There are many items that we can recycle such as glass, paper, metal, plastic and also electronic items. The most widely used product as a student is papers. At the end of each year, students usually will throw their books and notes which can actually be recycled. A good student should know the process of recycling papers in order to contribute in saving the world. Recycling paper starts with the process sorting it by the grades. There are five basic grades which are old corrugated containers, mixed papers, old newspaper, high grade deinked paper and pulp substitutes. A paper can be recycled only if the paper is clean from contaminants such as plastic, paper clip, wire, and staples. Usually sorting newspaper will be done at recycling centre. After sorting it, the papers will be wrapped in tight bales and transported it to a paper mill. After reach the paper mill, the workers will store the papers at warehouse according to their grade. The papers will be held in the warehouse until it is required. The reason it is separated according to grade because different grade produce different types of recycled papers. When the time comes to recycle, the papers will undergo the process named re-pulping and screening. Re-pulping is the process of chopping down papers into smaller pieces called fibre through water, chemicals and heating. The pulp than undergoes the process screening which screens the pulp from contaminants such as glue and globs. Next, the pulp now is placed in a spinning cone-shaped cylinder to throw away heavy contaminants such as staples. This process is called as cleaning. After cleaning, the pulps will sometime undergo the process called deinking. Deinking is the process of removing ink. Deinking process has two mini processes under it where the first process called washing which washes small particles of ink using water and then continues to the second process called floatation to remove large particles of ink. The seventh process in recycling paper is called refining, bleaching and colour striping. In this process, the pulps are beaten till it swells to make it ideal for papermaking. To make the pulp become brighter and whiter, it will be bleached using hydrogen peroxide, oxygen or chlorine dioxide. Then comes the last step which is called as the paper making process. The pulps are mixed together with water and chemicals and sometimes it is mixed wood fibre to add the smoothness of the paper. The mixture takes place inside a giant metal box. When the mixture comes out, the water will be compressed out from the pulp. The compression process will bond the pulp together strongly and makes it become a sheet. The sheet will roll on to a heated roller to dry the paper. Finally, the dried paper will be rolled and shipped to factories to reprint or to make boxes, envelops, paper bags and many more.
