As individuals of society we are continuously and subconsciously affected by media’s tactics to persuade us into falling victim into their marketing schemes. Witty yet brilliant individuals cough up slogans that will inevitably affect many consumers to come. The advertisement that initially captured my attention was the Gatorade Sports Drink Commercial. To start off, the advertisement contained text and visuals that demonstrated that Gatorade is a necessity to succeed in athletics. Moreover, the commercial demonstrated with the assistance of Nba Stars Dwayne Wade and Kevin Durant, you need the nutrients that Gatorade provides in order to compete in sports and to become the ultimate athlete and champion. I believe this ad creates limitations and viewers are led to believe that they must consume Gatorade due to the…
Caffeine is a stimulant that leads to temporary alertness. Its purpose is both clear and highly effective. Caffeine can be found in many different available beverages, such as, coffee, tea, soda, and energy drinks of course. Many people do not recognize that caffeine can be toxic at certain dosages, and lead to very serious health risk. Tan-Li Hsu the author of “High on Caffeine: Regulating Energy Drinks” effectively argues the merit of providing warnings for caffeine content on all drink labels that has this highly addictive drug. The demand for the product is increasing all across the United States. Hsu shows the negative influences of caffeine on the everyday life of Americans, especially that of a teenagers. Hsu explains that since the introduction of Red Bull to the American market in 1997 the market has since skyrocketed. Hsu takes up a position alongside Dr. Griffiths and other authors of the John Hopkins study “that energy drink manufacturers should clearly indicate the amount of caffeine on labels and shift marketing efforts away from teenagers.”…

Over the last decade, drinks containing high amounts of caffeine, sugar, and other ingredients that increase energy have been rapidly growing in popularity. Clearly these beverages are known as energy drinks. Energy drinks have gotten so popular that it is extremely rare to find a convenience store that doesn’t sell a variety of them. Students use energy drinks to cram the night before a test, athletes use them to exercise, party animals mix them with alcohol to drink more than humanly possible, and some people just drink them to stay awake at work after a sleepless night. Red Bull, one of the most popular energy drinks in the market, claim to enhance productivity, concentration, energy and help handle stressful situations. It seemed these beverages were a godsend to overworked employees and sleep-deprived college students. But after a few deaths were linked to the drink, controversy arose. Apparently Red Bull gives you wings, but what other side-effects can these sugary, over-caffeinated drinks cause? Many people have been asking this question lately, wondering how harmful drinking them really is. Despite that consuming a large amount of the drink may be dangerous, as long as people drink energy drinks responsibly they are relatively safe.…

College athletes deal with busy school schedules and practice schedules all throughout their week, so why shouldn't they be paid for their time dedicated to sports? Since the beginning of college football, college athletes have never been paid for their efforts in sports. Sure they have received scholarships, but young students that don’t have much money can't always balance school, practice, and a job. College football players should be paid to help them pay for their everyday needs, give them the money they played hard to earn, and to eliminate recruiting and secret payments.…

I would like to stop drinking soda because it has an unhealthy effect on my health. It has gotten to a point where I need more than a soda each day and I truly believe that I have become dependent to it. I believe the benefits of cutting soda from my diet would be exponential. By replacing soda with water and tea I will have a decreased amount of sugar intake and possibly more energy overall. The only downside is that I will miss my daily ritual of an ice cold Dr. Pepper. I have already lowered my soda intake within the past month and I believe that I will soon be able to completely cut it out of my diet. I am interested to find out exactly how dependent I am on the caffeine I receive from soda.…

I have read the funeral homes policies and procedures concerning music played at funerals. However, realizing one's own mortality and understanding that the time I have remaining is reduced to days instead of weeks or months has made me question this policy. I am asking you to make an exception this once and grant me a dying wish. I wish to have a favorite song played that means so much to me, my family and friends. It would be wrong to have my funeral without it. Please consider my request to have the song titled, "You Can't Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones played at my funeral.…

For many years, obesity has been a “chronic disease” of America. With an increased number of the population having this ailment, many government officials have different opinions of how to confront this issue. One idea is to limit the maximum size of sugary drinks sold to customers. The theory with this ban is that by cutting out a large portion of sugar from people’s diets the amount of the population with obesity will decrease. However, this idea itself is flawed. Therefore, local and state government should not limit the size of sugary drinks because it would contain too many loopholes, directly control other businesses, and affect people’s rights to control what goes into their bodies.…
