Red Cross Turnover
Some of the reasons for the Red Cross ethical dilemmas come from their executive turnover rate. The frequent turnover rate of CEOs has greatly weakened the organization's ability to put controls into place. The President and CEO during the 9/11 attack, Bernadine Hartley was forced to resign due to mismanagement of response time. President and CEO Mark Evans was fired after the handling of Hurricane Katrina. During a brief time in 2007 when Mark Everson was President and CEO, he resigned due to an inappropriate sexual relationship. The change in leadership left the organization vulnerable. During times of disaster, the organization did not have the proper procedures in place to screen potential volunteers. Allowing volunteers with

Everyone is familiar with the organization the Red cross, and how many different families and lives they truly have impacted. Many people donate their time and money to help people in need. It is a wonderful organization, but if the team members aren’t fully aware of potential threats that could occur it could be very costly for all of those involved. People depend on the Red Cross when they are in the time of need, such as a Natural disaster. The first threat that I would like to discuss with everyone is in the event of human error thus is events that are either enabled by or caused by human beings, such as unintentional acts (inadvertent data entry) or deliberate actions (network based attacks, malicious software upload, unauthorized access to confidential information). You have to be cautious of everything you’re doing especially when it involves personal information.…

In 2012 the American Red Cross sent out almost 7 million relief items to people in the United States, and in 2015 committed 1 million dollars to the earthquake relief project in Nepal. Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross, knew about disasters, as she was a nurse in the civil war. She also knew about adversity, being born in the early 1800’s meant she would have to push hard to make a change in the world. Clara Barton’s life was a testament to the belief that all people should be treated equally, from the way she immediately answered the call to action in the Franco-Prussian war, to her determination to open an American branch of the Red Cross, to her ability to ignore all prejudice to help others.…

According to the case study, the American Red Cross had seven different acting or permanent heads in the first decade of the 21st century. This "run-through" of CEOs at the America Red Cross ended when Gail McGovern joined the American Red Cross in April of 2008, and she has been in office since, making complimentary changes and moving the company in the right direction. In March 2011. " she was appointed as one of 10 members on the President’s Management Advisory Board and serves as the only nonprofit leader on this White House panel"(www.redcross.org). Although Gail McGovern has not been perfect as the company's CEO, she did state to NBC News' Lisa Myers in November 2012, that the American Red Cross' response has been well-organized as well as timely. She was quoted saying, "I think that we are near flawless so far in this operation" (blogs.reuters.com).…

    * Red Cross has to be open to all the different cultures because it is an worldwide organization that helps everyone when disasters hit. When it comes down to their decision-making the Board of Governors, they get together annually to discuss everything that is happening and information that has been brought to their attention from outside sources. Currently they have a Code of Business Ethics and Conduct document that all employees and volunteers must read and sign a document that states they agree with the terms. According to "American Red Cross Code of Business Ethics and Conduct" (2009), “The Red Cross has traditionally demanded and received the highest ethical performance from its employees and volunteers.” They hold everyone to these standards therefore they know there are not any issues, if issues arise the Office of the General Counsel and the Office of Investigations, Compliance, and Ethics look into the issues and further actions may be taken if any foul play has occurred. (American Red Cross Code of Business Ethics and Conduct, 2009) The American Red Cross has the Whistleblower Hotline, this is where people can communicate their concerns with people being unethical and there is an hotline that they can call if need be. There is a standard that they all are held at and if they do not they are held accountable for their actions but the American Red Cross is always looking to hear what people have to say in all aspects of their organization.…

The ethical issues are not only with those who were directly involved, but also those who knew what was going on and chose not to help. Regardless if one is involved or not, it is everyone’s job to think about the greater good, and ignoring inhumane situations is no different than being part of one because doing nothing is a cognitive choice and the morally wrong…

This organization had different locations all over the world and Clara Barton lobbied to open a Red Cross in America. “The government allowed the red cross to help not only in times of war but also in natural disasters and epidemics” (Stevenson 2005). The Red Cross helps Americans in times of crises. Petitioning for the Red Cross in America took many years and was difficult for Barton. Inside the organization there will be many people working together as a team to be sure that things are progressing as information is coming in. This will be for all crisis situations not only this one in particular. This will be our “go to team” for all emergency situations. This team will consist of individuals that have undergone training in CPR, emergency situations, and also stress management. According to Foote (2012)” Leaders should quickly assess the type of crisis, the help they need to shape their response, the status of information available, and the potential scope of damage”. This is not only for their benefit, but also for the safety of the other employees. These employees will be notified immediately of when situations are occurring and will already know course of action to take in certain emergency situations such as fires, flooding, and intruders inside the premises. During all other situations each person of the team will be notified of their duties, where to report, what…

Dysfunctional turnover is the exact opposite of functional turnover, as the best employees leave. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but a common cause is low potential to advance. “Dysfunctional turnover” is when your best people are leaving, instead of your worst performers. The opposite of that situation your worst performing employees are leaving, and you’re retaining your superstars is referred to as “functional turnover.” In both cases, the actual rate of turnover is important to note. Dysfunctional turnover is voluntary turnover that organization wants to retain that employee, because these employees have made positive contributions to the organization. The key is the quality, rather than the quantity, of departing workers. If a company suffers from high levels of dysfunctional it needs to address underlying issues.…

In the United States alone, there are roughly 48 million people who do not have access to medical care. Even with constant reports from the media, knowledge of who tends to their care is relatively unknown outside of the medical field. When my parents opened their home health agency back in 2010, I never realized how much of an impact it would have on me in the years to come. With my father’s background of entrepreneurship for over 20 years and my mother’s background of nursing, they combined their strengths to startup a business designed to take care of underprivileged people without access to hospitals. With 80% of their patients under the poverty line, their compassion to care for those in need continues to inspire me everyday. Consequently,…
