The question is not whether or not something need to be done rather how we as a society can create equal life chances for all of Americans children. In my opinion, redistribution of wealth is a great place to start. The tax system of our country unfairly benefits the top “1%”. The majority that controls the resources continues to have the power and with that power they do not chose equality.
The functionalist theory is somewhat flawed when trying to understand economic inequality. This theory implies that if there are social problems such as poverty then the poverty must be valuable to the function of the society. I disagree with this theory on the basis that our society could exist without children going to bed
