Abstract
According to MacIntyre (1995) “anxiety can be associated with a variety of physiological and emotional states, embodied in feelings of tension even in situations where the immediate cause of such tension is not readily apparent.” In addition, classroom anxiety could stem from social stressors, scheduling stresses, academic factors, and environmental factors. John Paul F. Bayonito, a first year student section D from Parañaque Science High School, took part in this case study. John Paul’s obtained grades from the first grading period were employed and his teachers’ observations were sought as bases for his seeming classroom anxiety. Regular and informal interviews were conducted with the participant’s parents and teachers to monitor his home activities and academic performance respectively. In addition, the participant was provided with “breather” before taking an examination. The findings suggested that breather and teachers’ encouragement and motivation could be very effective means to reduce the participant’s anxiety. On the contrary, the unwillingness of the participant to stay in Parañaque Science High School was probably apparent, further research study of John Paul’s seeming anxiety was recommended. Several classroom interventions were provided to teachers to reduce classroom anxiety of students.
