This was one of the most challenging disasters till date at Kedarnath so much so that even after few days also it was really tough for a human mind[->0] to calculate the loss. It made everyone busy. Media is covering as much as they can. Indian army, air force, navy all are focusing here to save the human lives. Still death[->1] is uncountable along with other losses.
Analysis differs. While the administration insists that it was a natural calamity, environmentalists hold that this was a man-made disaster waiting to happen. Basically the environmentalists, exports and activists say unplanned development and rampant felling of forests responsible for the scale of disaster as per the news on “The Times of India[->2]” on Thursday, 22nd June. Let’s look into the might-be causes in more detail and also practically.
The main cause is like this. Extreme rains have wreaked havoc at Kedarnath. If we’ll look closely then the main reason is the stream of unexpected water by rain. Now till this point we’ll peep into the depth more detail. According to the position of Kedarnath, it’s situated in the middle of the peaks (here Google map can be helpful). In this position in case of any heavy rain fall, water supposes to come down to the surroundings of Kedarnath main temple. Then the question arises if it’s so, then why didn’t water pass through the surroundings?
The age of Kedarnath is unknown. Hindu mythology[->3] relates the existence since the period of Mahabharata. By that time[->4], the temple was standing almost alone waiting only for the devotees and nature had dug two lines for water to flow down whenever water comes from the peaks surrounded by Kedarnath itself. But for us it’s not wise to think about the unknown past. Let’s go back to few years. Might be 30-40 years is enough. Before the disaster, Kedarnath was surrounded by huge crowd including many infrastructures. Due to the unplanned development, the two river beds besides Kedarnath have been filled gradually

Guerrilla Girls message shows the corruption in the art world, and the lack of human rights for women and children all over the world, especially in areas of war and conflict, making them apoplectic. They have shown it is always two steps forward one step back, however feminism is changing the lives of women around the globe, slowly in most places, and significantly in others. Even in the most repressive countries have feminist movements- brave women often working in secret. Through their message they believe in “tenets of feminism, equal pay for equal work, freedom from sexual exploitation and abuse, the right to an education, control over their reproductive lives”, formulating this idea that by the negative stereotypes in the media and society,…

In today's world we are faced with many types of disasters. Disasters can be broken down into two types or causes; Natural and Technical/Man-made. Natural disasters are considered events such as a flood, earthquake, or hurricane that causes a great deal of destruction and fatalities. Technical/Man-made disasters are the ones caused by humans. This type of disaster comes from our negligence, human error, and even intent. One disaster that stands out in history is the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. Some speculate that this was a natural disaster while others say it was a technical disaster. But none the less, it was a major disaster that…

The flood of 1973 that caused so much damage to the Old River Control Structure was the affect of many things. There were unusually heavy snows in the upper valley. The South of the state received an exceptional amount of rainfall. Eventually, the runoffs came down to the tributaries, built-up, and ultimately signaled computers a warning that the mainline levees were not adequate to contain the amount of water collected. In a state of panic there were sandbags, potato ridges and barriers of uncompacted dirt added to the levees to try to prevent a flood. During the continued spring high water the collected drainage all came together at Old River in units exceeding two million cubic feet per second. Twenty-five per cent of that left the Mississippi channel and went to the Atchafalaya. Professor Racphael G. Kazmann remembers his experience walking over the structure prior to the flood of 1973. Kazmann recalls, “That whole miserable structure was vibrating... This thing weighs two hundred thousand tons. When two hundred thousand tons vibrates like this, this is no place for R. G. Kazmann. I got in my care, turned around, and hot the hell out of there.” The structure and its stilling basin had been built to disperse energy- but not quite that much energy.…

The word ‘natural’ indicates that humans have not caused the disaster. However, human activity can certainly interfere with nature, which in turn may either cause a natural disaster or make its effects much worse. Earthquakes can affect people in many different ways in countries all over the world. They are a product of intense seismic activity where plates are interacting, at a destructive of transform faults, particularly leading to a build up of tension below the Earths surface. When this tension is released the buildings, bridges, pipes etc which lie in the line of the seismic waves can often not withstand the force and strain of the earthquakes and can potentially harm people. However is it the people’s fault that the earthquake occurred in the first place?…

The District Disaster Management Plan is a key part of an emergency management. It will play a significant role to address the unexpected disasters that occur in the district effectively. The information available in DDMP is valuable in terms of its use during disaster. Based on the history of various disasters that occur in the district, the plan has been so designed as an action plan rather than a resource book. Utmost attention has been paid to make it handy, precise rather than bulky one. This plan has been prepared which is based on the guidelines provided by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). While preparing this plan, most of the issues, relevant to crisis management, have been carefully dealt with. During the time of disaster there will be a delay before outside help arrives. At first, self-help is essential and depends on a prepared community which is alert and informed. Efforts have been made to collect and develop this plan to make it more applicable and effective to handle any type of disaster. The DDMP developed involves some significant issues like Incident Command System (ICS), India Disaster Resource Network (IDRN) website, the service of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in disaster management. In fact, the response mechanism, an important part of the plan is designed with the ICS. It is obvious that the ICS, a best model of crisis management has been included in the response part for the first time. It has been the most significant tool to the response manager to deal with the crisis within the limited period and to make optimum use of the available resources. Details of inventory resources are given an importance in the plan so that during disaster their optimum use can be derived. The resource inventory, the IDRN is now linked…
