Reflection of Being Catholic
People who are raised Catholic, would know what I mean when I say most parents of newborns will have their babies baptized into the faith very young, probably within the first 6 months after birth. I was a late bloomer. When I was 6 years old, my grandparents gained full custody of me, and being that my mother had never done anything to introduce me into the family's religion, my grandparents did not waste any time in having me baptized. Being that I was not baptized until I was six, I immediately had to take Sunday school classes for my First Reconciliation and my First Holy Communion. When I was in second grade I was already altar server, which was not an opportunity for kids until they were in fifth grade. Grade school kids who were altar servers helped with simple duties during mass such as processing in with candles, holding the prayer book for the priest to read from, etc. As a kid, I placed a lot of importance on my faith; it was really all I had. My mother was a drug addict and had left me alone worrying about what she was doing days at a time, so then my grandparents came to my rescue. With all the misfortunes in my life, religion was a means of hope and happiness. By third grade, my grandparents had me attend to St. Hughes, a Catholic school. I was saying my prayers at night, something that most kids probably would not have time for. As I continued to grow and mature, it was only typical that I encountered such problems as being out casted amongst students in class, and heartbreaks over boys throughout high school. I usually turned to prayer for relief and comfort. As life in general continued to get me down and bring me heartache, I came to the realization that perhaps there was not a God, or if there was, I had no idea how my prayers and church-going would help me. By the time I was a junior, I had stopped going to church (except for when there was holiday mass.) I considered myself uncertain at this point. I had gone from church going altar

However, according to the tract, “Are Roman Catholics Christian?”, the baptism of infants is not. Chick goes on to explain how infant baptism is not a viable means of salvation. Nowhere in the Bible does it state that baptizing infants is an adequate way of bringing new members into the faith. Being a Fundamentalist, Jack T. Chick takes the Bible literally. This leaves little to no room for interpretation of the written text on the Bible’s pages. Baptism is for the believers in Christ. How can an infant, unable to reason, believe in Him? Acts 8:35-38 is an account of, what seems to be, a rational man, wanting to be baptized after learning of the Good News about Jesus. Once he had learned about Christ, the man, Philip, was able to decide for himself that he desired…

Catholicism has always been the central religion in my family heritage. Each of my family members, originating back to my great grandmother have been raised Roman Catholic. Both on my mother and father’s sides of the family they practice Catholicism. My entire life has been centralized around faith and believing in one God. I attended Catholic School from 2nd to 12th grade and I gained a large amount from the faith filled environment. However, it was not until I was 15 years old that I became fully involved with my relationship with God and practiced Catholicism properly. The reason I became so involved with my relationship with God was because I attended a Catholic Youth Conference in Atlanta, Georgia called, “Steubenville Catholic Youth…

Religion is very important to most people in society today. It has been around for many years and many different religions have emerged. It is hard for a person to step into a religious environment that is unfamiliar to them. I have never been inside a church and all of my life my family never really told me about religion. The social phenomenon I studied was a Catholic Mass. On Sunday morning, October 23, 2011, I attended the Catholic Mission of Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church in Lilburn, GA. Stepping into the church, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had no idea what would happen or if I would stand out from the crowd as a new-comer. I did get stares, but everyone was very friendly. They wanted to get to know about me and my background. My experience was very overwhelming because I did not know what to do. There was so much kneeling, praying, standing up, and people doing the signs of the cross; I had no idea when to do these things.…

As an adult, I stayed true to the Catholic doctrine by marrying within the church and having my infant son baptized. Due to this upbringing, I find myself struggling to understand how others do not believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.…

On April 3, I visited the 9:00 AM mass at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland with my grandma who has been a practicing Catholic her entire life. The church had a very welcoming atmosphere. The church building is somewhat simple, without many of the top decorations. The architecture is simple, and resembles that of many other small churches. There is a steep area of the roof that is a common characteristic of a church's architecture. On the inside there were many rows of pews from the front near the altar to the back. On the altar there was an organ, a large cross, and a hanging, medium-sized stained glass.…
