Reflection of Leadership Styles
Reflection of Leadership Styles

Throughout this P.Q.P. course there have been numerous discussions about what makes a good leader. Leadership styles can be broken down in to several distinct categories, but the understanding and internalization certain qualities of these styles is instrumental.
In our group discussions, to be an effective leader you must be able to juggle between these styles depending on the situation. As the Department Head of 15 teacher’s conflicts arise, not everyone has the same views, opinions or motivational qualities. An effective leader must be able to understand where these teachers are coming from and what is motivating or not motivating them. Even though you have a clear direction and the steps to obtain the set goal there will always be people who will not want to join in for their own reason. I am well aware that “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink” is an obstacle that will come up. I feel to be an effective leader you must bring these people on board in some way to unite the school as a learning community.
A great and effective leader must have clear direction and propose for the direction. I believe, ifyou have the qualities of a visionary, coaching, pacesetting and when needed commanding approach to leadership you will succeed in the leadership role. It seemed in the class discussions the group was dispersed among the Pacesetting, Coaching and Democratic styles to leadership. Collectively, in discussions it was agreed upon that there was not one style that was right, only the amalgamation of several styles would produce an effective leader.
I am a person of action I believe to lead by example or get out of the way if you are not going to do it so it can be done right. I have grown as a leader by being able to except the fact that not all people have the same drive and goals aI do. For the longest time I thought people were lazy, but in fact if you can get the lazy people to take stock in what you

Being a leader is more that motivating others to strive harder and accomplish goals. It’s more about gathering everyone with different skills, religion, ethnicity, etc. and making them one. As a leader, the task is to develop new strategies, tackle problems as soon as they start, recognize signs of stress, leave personal problems as home, put the job first, etc. Not everyone makes a great leader because time isn’t implemented to make changes that are necessary and don’t put the needs of the organization and members in thought. I will discuss who has been a great leader in my life any why. Along will that, I will discuss my traits as a leader.…

After investigating the background of leadership, and looking into various leadership models, I can see there is no single style which will make someone an effective leader/manager. I have learnt that the most effective leaders are those who have the ability to understand which style is required and interchange between the various leadership styles so they apply the style to suit the current task and staff member. I believe that successful leaders need to be self-aware of how their actions can impact others.…

My leadership style is best described as a funnel. My aim in leading others is not to conduct every single individual, but to guide everyone to work towards the same central goal. I believe it is best to let others bring their own unique abilities to the table and use them to accomplish the task at hand. One of my most memorable experiences as a leader was leading my school’s student section. When I came into high school, school spirit was a joke. At games, everyone sat and no one said a thing. I decided that needed to change. My fellow students didn’t want change. They told my friends and I to sit down and shut up. I kept standing, I yelled louder, and kept going. Eventually, I started a spark. By the end of my freshman year there were a group…

If I would have been asked to define a good leader before attending this course, I would have probably said that a leader is a person which is able to passionate people, to empower them not for the position he/she is holding but for the inner force which enables him/he to go beyond every hierarchy. As Jim Pratt says, there are plenty of good managers , but only few leaders. How to understand if we are a good manager or a leader? Just answering to a simple question "Would people follow me, if I would not be in the position I am?". It is important to answer quite frankly to this question, not trying to overestimate our position. Leadership can be learnt but, if there a re no "seeds" , no basis on which to built, we can be a good manager but would hardly be a good leader.…

Being a leader is more than simply holding a leadership position or having the ability to lead. Everyone is capable of being a leader, but not everyone exercises his or her leadership abilities. Each person’s idea of leadership is different. My idea of leadership has developed over time, and being a member of the President’s Leadership Class has helped me develop my philosophy of leadership further than what it was two months ago. My personal philosophy of leadership is the ability to effect change through leading by example, taking initiative, and encouraging others.…

The first important characteristic of a leader is the ability to successfully guide others in their leadership skills. John C. Maxwell stated it quite clearly: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” This 2015-2016 school year, my friend and I decided to start an…

My leadership philosophy is about making genuine connections to people. In order to influence people to be great leaders, all the key factors should be tapped in to in some capacity. I make sure my actions speak louder than my word. I lead by example by rolling up my sleeves and showing team members I am not just an army civilian but a part of the team. This philosophy applies to my life whether at work or home. I credit these key factor as the core of becoming a great and effective…

Over the last few decades, many people have asked these questions. As a result, the topic of leadership has gained the attention of researchers worldwide and a multitude of books has been published. As Northouse (2013) points out, leadership is a complex process, “as many as 65 different classification systems have been developed to define the dimensions of leadership and there are almost as many different definitions of leadership as there are people who have tried to define it” (p. 2). As someone in a position of leadership, it is essential to recognize and develop a personal style they can implement.…
