People may think of fruit as a sweet, healthy option for a snack. What those people do not know is that some of those fruits can be very damaging to their teeth and to their bodies. One reason for this is that a variety of commonly digested fruits are extremely acidic. This experiment will test the pH level of everyday fruits to see how acidic they actually are. When eaten, which fruit will have the lowest pH (be the most acidic)?…

In the short stories “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and Revelation” by Flannery O’ Connor the alienated antagonist are both the keys to the enlightenment of the protagonists Grandma and Mrs.Turpin. They are both egocentric, judgmental and believe they are holier than thou. They are thus confronted by those for whom they alienated The Misfit and Mary Grace. Those they assumed to be inferior now shine light on there clouded minds.…
During my high school career I have endured many sleepless nights due to my insistence that I read all the books assigned to me. For my freshman and sophomore year this was no big deal. However, after junior year with McGee I have come to realize that trying to read all the texts assigned would be my demise. As much as it pained me, I had to, instead of reading then entire text, read a simple summary. This year I have managed to get by with this same method. Throughout my semester in AP Literature in Room 303 with Timothy McGee, I have enjoyed certain texts more than others, however, the level of importance of these texts is determined not by whether or not I liked the, but rather instead what they taught me and how important they might be on the AP exam. There have been a large number of books and stories that we have covered during our time, but the three that I believe are the most…
Both Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were visionaries for the Civil rights Movement. One cannot argue that they were both passionate about equality for colored people. However, they both had different means of fighting for those rights. While Malcolm X went with a more aggressive approach, MLK wanted peace while gaining their rights. While they both have compelling arguments, I agree more with Malcolm X and his approach on this issue.…
In the passage Death to high school English, written by Kim Brooks, explains the thoughts of a college professor who teaches composition, and is dealing with students who do not know how to write at all. Brooks story is told in first person, simply because she experienced it firsthand. The tone of this passage seemed to be mostly frightening because Brooks was in shock at how terrible the writing was and had to put a stop to it and make a change. Another tone that was noticeably present in the text was disbelieving. Disbelieving was definitely present because Brooks was in complete disbelief, disbelief in how students at this age and experience still do not know how to properly write. “I’ve begun to wonder if this typical high school English class, dividing its curriculum between standardized tests preparation and the reading of canonical texts, might occupy a central place in the creation of a generation of college students who, simply put, cannot write” (Brooks). Brooks writes with an annoyed tone, and a very powerful vocabulary which helps her back up her point very specifically. Also, the text left me with a very pungent question, that is of course if I am a bad writer, and if so, I should definitely start now to correct myself in every way to help my future self, and my future English teacher.…
I am no professional at writing by any means, but I can get my thoughts and point across. I feel that two challenges that I will encounter while using the APA style would be plagiarism and writing style and format. I have noticed in the past when I was in college I tend to ramble a bit throughout my papers. I understand at this level more will be required of me and my out of my papers. Second, when it comes to plagiarism I understand it is crucial not to ever use anyones words other than your own at any point. Brushing up on my power phrasing skills is on the to do list. This way my words are clear and never misleading.…

Improving my ability to become a great writer and write grade-A college papers is an important goal I hope to achieve by taking this class. My personal goals overall for this class is to gain the necessary elements and principles of writing, in order to further help my skills as a writer so it may lead to future success. As a writer my skills have improved over the years in things like grammar, thesis statements, outlines and critical thinking. Overall my skills in writing have greatly improved over the years, even though some may still require improvement. By completing this class over the summer, I look forward in reducing my weaknesses as a writer writer’s block and etc., in order to become a more significant and effective writer. Improving my writing skills has numerous benefits whether in college or things like vocabulary, keeping track of daily events, or even writing a journal of all the events taking place…
Reading has always said to be the key to success, for it encourages learning. Yet, philosophers such as the German Arthur Schopenhauer state that reading too much actually is bad for the mind. I qualify these thoughts as I too agree that the excessiveness of reading may bond the mind’s creativity and freedom, yet feeding on other’s insights is also vital for a well-rounded mindset.…
This semester has been a little difficult for me; I have faced many challenges and still have more to come. Classes have been hard to adjust to but I have tried my hardest and put my best foot forward. The main two classes that I feel I am struggling in right now are English 1000 and Math 1090. I feel these are my hardest classes because English is a weak subject for me and coming into college English is a big step for me. I have a big problem with my writing and the way I word my papers therefore English is a weakness of mine. Math is another weakness of mine because when I learn new things and I don’t understand them I don’t usually tend to ask for help and in math you learn something new every day. I was very good at math…
Though it is widely used for written assignments in college programs, APA style is designed for submitting scholarly papers for publication. The running head is a publisher’s term for a shortened form of the title at the top of every page, with a different format for the title page. Type the text of your running head directly in the page 1 and page 2 header.…
