Reflection On Becoming A Certified Nurse Assistant
In August of 2015, I began a Health Science course to obtain my certification to be a certified nurse aid or CNA. The course was profoundly difficult and rigorous. Many hours were spent studying and practicing skills in the lab. Eventually, these skills were taken to a long term care facility, where I performed these skills on real people rather, than on a dummy. After, obtaining a certain amount of clinical hours and also class hours, the certification test came. The test consisted of two parts: a multiple choice test and a skills evaluation. Hours after taking the test the results came in and I discovered that I had passed. As soon as I saw the results the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders and I was able to breathe, I realized

What's a CNA? Some people think Certified Nursing Assistants aren't very important but that's not the case. Do you know what CNA’s do on a daily? In my English class everyone was assigned to write a three page Iserach paper on a topic of your pick. A Isearch paper isn't the same as a research paper. My personal nursing mission statement is changing and developing as my career advances, however, one core piece will remain constant. I will strive to provide the best, safest, most ethical and compassionate nursing care that I can for all patients and family members with whom I come in contact. I began my post-high school academic career as an accounting major. I enjoyed the challenge of manipulating a report until I had balanced. I thought I had found my calling. As my first semester was nearing an end, I found myself contemplating the thought of sitting behind a desk all day. I wondered if I would find fulfillment in this work as a career? The more I pondered this thought, the more I realized that this was not the right career path for me. I saw images of the medical assistant program in the catalog at the school where I was attending. I could not shake the thought of the medical field for a profession. I attained my medical assistant degree and worked in the field for 10 years. The longer I worked, the more I realized that there was more that I wanted to do, but my current degree restricted me from going further. I researched nursing school programs and selected one with a night/weekend program that would allow me to continue working full-time during my studies. I have a family that I needed to continue to provide for and this seemed to be the best fit. My nursing school decision was fortified when I was selected for an award by the nursing faculty from all four semesters for excellence in the clinical setting. After graduation, I began my nursing career working as a case manager for orthopedic worker’s compensation patients. During this time I gained critical knowledge of the importance of clear documentation, the ever-changing requirements of insurance companies and an extra measure of compassion for…

I started my career in the healthcare field as a unit clerk. My primary duties were answering the telephone and call light system. After about a year, I wanted to do more so I decided to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). My duties as a CNA entailed helping patients/residents with their activities of daily living. I quickly realized that I did not want to play that particular role in the healthcare field and that I needed to do more. I applied for the licensed practical nurse program and was accepted. After graduating and passing my state board exam, I worked as a licensed practical nurse for six and a half years before applying for the associate degree nursing program for registered nurses. I was accepted and after completion my career as a registered nurse began.…

Certified nursing aides have a lot of responsibilities of intimate care with residents/patients. In order to have a job as challenging as a certified nursing aide, the individual must be very special with being compassionate, loving, caring and patient. Being an aide takes time and aides need to have the ability to lift correctly. On top of having many responsibilities of intimacy, the aide must be physically able to do the required care. These duties may be strenuous on the aide’s bodies, and there may even be times where the aide’s bodies are extensively worn out from all the hard work. This kind of physical work may cause some aides to hurt themselves from all the pulling and lifting which can tear and strain on muscles and ligaments. One of the reasons why aides should be paid more is for all the wear and tear on their bodies. The aides are held responsible for giving showers and assisting with activities of daily living. These are just some of the described duties of a certified care giver.…
