Reflection On My Clinical Experience

Over the course of this year I believe I still have some growing to do in the clinical setting. One of my weaknesses I have is lacking confidence in myself. Many times I doubt myself when I know I shouldn’t. For example, many times during post conference or even on the floor the clinical instructor may ask a question about a procedure or medication, instead of answering the question myself I will let someone else answer. A lot of times I know the answer the instructor is looking for, but I won’t say it aloud because I second guess myself. To correct this habit, I will voice my answers more often than I have been. Even if my answer is incorrect it will allow me the opportunity to learn from my mistake. Another weakness I have is missing steps to certain procedures.
While I was assisting Anita with hanging her patient’s bag the only step I continued to forget was closing and opening the clamp on the tubbing. I was grateful for being given the chance to hang the bag, and now I can use it as another learning experience. Next month whether I’m at Newberry Memorial, or Easley Baptist I believe that will be the one thing I will not forget if I have to hang IV bags again. Nursing notes is another thing I want to work on and improve for next month. I believe in clinical today I did better because there wasn’t a lot that had to be omitted or added. The issue I’m having with nursing notes is that I tend to write my nursing notes the way I write my chart notes at work.
