The Franklin Del Roosevelt monument is regarded as one of the most engaging sites in Washington DC. The memorial's reputation was obtained through sophisticated design by Lawrence Halprin in which he took into deliberation the symbols, images, words, and shapes that would be utilized to convey Franklin Del Roosevelt's personal conflicts and accomplishments throughout his lifespan.…
Upon receiving my letter for invitation to apply for the National Junior Honor Society came feelings of hard work pays off, and a bit of pride. I have worked very hard to maintain an all A average at Friendswood Junior High while taking some PAP classes as well as challenging myself with Latin. Having been told in a conference with a 5th grade teacher that I was not going to be an A student and that my parents and I needed to get used to that fact, sent me on a mission to be the best student I knew that I was capable of being, regardless of what any teacher thought.…
The National Honors Society recognizes students who have great leadership skills, strong character, and who have a great desire to serve their community. I believe that I demonstrate all of these attributes. I work very hard to do well in school, I continue to serve in leadership positions in the community and I strive to be an individual…
This year, I was elected the President of our National Honor Society Chapter, which was an immense honor. National Honor Society and the amazing members of NHS have allowed and helped me make a difference within our school. A couple years…
The public education system in the United States puts a greater emphasis on test scores and grades that it does actual learning. While around 80 percent of high school students graduate, most of them are not being prepared for what comes next. I have come to believe that there is more to education that a decent GPA, so I have tried to enrich myself with as much real-world experience as possible during my time in high school, while still trying to maintain my grades. My time in leadership positions, desire to work with other intellectual individuals, and rigorous academic goals all make me an exceptional candidate for the Honors College at East Carolina University.…
Salutations, General Washington, it has been an honor serving with you. However, it was very difficult to leave my wife and children, but in the end, it was far worth it. Freedom from the British was a painstaking, grueling task. It put hardships on us all and was difficult from the frigid temperatures, lack of food, losses, and always moving for another battle. I distinctly remember the battles we had fought together.…
Hello, I’m Caroline Woodle and I feel that I would be a propitious member of National Honor Society. This organization does an incredible job of recognizing students who are leaders in their communities. In my opinion, the most influential part of a person is their character. Activities such as competitive dance, FFA, and youth leadership events continuously reinforce my values of honesty and hardwork. Giving to and inspiring others are two of the most important parts of my life. Numerous Midwest mission trips revealed to me the responsibility and desire I have to serve others. During these work trips, my youth group and I met with dozens of people who had devastating stories of natural disasters that had completely destroyed their homes and…
I believe I meet the criteria for National Honor Society because I have a couple leadership positions, I am active in community service, I am very involved in school activities, and I have been recognized for several prestigious awards. First, I have met the criteria for community service hours, with most of my hours coming in the past couple months. I am the Principal horn for the Sedalia Symphony Orchestra and I am a leader in Upward Bound’s Supplemental Instruction…
Why did FDR, Kennedy and Reagan win the hearts of America, while G.W. Bush, Nixon and Hoover are thought of as practically failures? Why is Eisenhower more popular than Carter? These are questions that not many people think about on a day-to-day basis- in fact, many people just accept, sometimes even without much proof, that certain presidents were better than others. Sure, the circumstances in which they were in office probably helped people choose which presidents are better than other (FDR in getting America out of the Great Depression, vs. say, Nixon and how he dealt with Vietnam), but it goes deeper than…
The National Honor Society is a group of students that exemplify the traits of leadership, character, citizenship, and intelligence. It is crucial that the future members of this organization exhibit these characteristics to the best of their abilities. For a great majority of my student life, I strived to perform these traits to my utmost capability, aiming to become an excellent example for my fellow peers. Throughout my high school career, I have been on the honor role for every quarter thus far. I feel deep pride and satisfaction in my grades and scholarly accomplishments, for they are a visual example of the hard work and large amount of effort I put into my studies. Although I not acquired any formal leadership positions, I exert my leadership abilities by example. In my classes, I often…
Honor is defined as having respect for someone, mostly for being moral and knowledgeable. What if through a variety of trials one comes to realize honor is not always the right thing for all of mankind? This happens for Creighton through his many struggles he learns honor is not always the best guide for his choices in life. Creighton helped out the Americans because they were in need and that was courageous because he is from Britain turning alliance with another Country. He saved the print shop by going back into the fire and grabbing prints so the shop could reopen and resemble what it was before it burned. He helped his dad even though everyone told him to leave him resulting in the injury of a bullet to his leg. Creighton Brown is a true…
During high school I have been able to maintain a GPA of a 4.0 and regularly get A's and high B's for grades. I have also participated in Non-Service Drill Team as an extracurricular activity and have learned how to be more dedicated and patient in order to get something done from that activity. I am respectful to my teachers and dependable when it comes to turning in work on…
Bill, I have to ask you’ll How did you go from America’s dad to the most hated man in America. It is funny how life works. One day your beloved then the next day Fox Five reports you as a rapist and your legacy is gone; man you almost left this world with a clean image you could have been in the same light as Martin Luther King and Gandhi. Life is funny like that. I remember one day my childhood friend Jose left my house and he told me; let's go to the store but I told him I'm going back upstairs to go to sleep. The next morning I woke up and came downstairs to the first floor and saw Jose's mom; and she told me to come inside and sit down. She was shaking she couldn’t even speak but eventually she explained to me that the store Jose…
Honor has always been a central aspect of one’s identity. People go great lengths to keep and prove their honor. We have all heard of honor, but what exactly is honor? Honor today is seen as one’s integrity or high public esteem. But it has not always been that way.…
After watching the state of the union address given by President Obama, the speech got me thinking and evaluating how well the president has done thus far into his term. The president interacted with the congress very well throughout the speech. Every time he paused, the audience would give him a standing ovation. He even tried to throw a bit of humor into the speech by saying “…milk was somehow classified as an oil. With a rule like that I guess it was worth crying over spilled milk.” So for his ability to connect with his audience in congress, I award him an 8 out of a possible 10 points.…
