Reflection Paper “Retreat”
Last January 29-30, 2013, I had my retreat at Casa Mamre in Merida, Leyte. I treated it as a mini or short vacation from my busy and stressful everyday school life. Well, that was my initial take on my retreat day until I finally came to the realizations the recollection had offered me during my time there. It wasn’t just a vacation. It was a time for me to be able to take a break from my usual life and take a step back to take a look at where I am at the moment and where I want to be in the future.
I arrived at school as early as 10a.m in the morning because of so much excitement but the bus was just driven at almost 1 in the afternoon. And as we we’re about to arrive it was so tired already and they didn’t even give us time to rest a bit, it was a straighten activity. We are just given time to went into our rooms and put our baggage’s when we we’re about to eat our dinner and a short time to fix our self then after it we went back to the session hall again and start up with the another activity.
As I am about to finish my high school with hopefully two terms left, I needed that time to know what God intends for me to do as I begin a new chapter in my life – college degree. The retreat was an eye-opener for me. I got to know myself better through the questions asked by the facilitator. Each of which had different

Testimonies can bring even more power to the already powerful gospel story. When I think of powerful testimonies I think of Billy Sunday’s testimony. Sunday was a professional baseball player, and was also a drunk. Sunday was drunk one day with a few of his buddies, and someone invited him to the Pacific Garden Mission where he was saved.…

The first reflection paper is going to be on Prayer and Miracles. The important thing is that you want to pray. You yearn to spend time with God in prayer every day. Each individual has to find their prayer time. Life is full and in our daily frenzied life, one must set aside time to be with God. The hurried life style is so apparent in our culture today; everyone is in a hurry and want’s the drive thru prayer request. A miracle is an event attributed to divine intervention. Alternatively, it may be an event attributed to a miracle worker, saint, or religious leader. A miracle is sometimes thought of as a perceptible interruption of the laws of nature. Some suggest that God may work with the laws of nature to perform what people see as miracles. Theologians say that, with divine providence, God regularly works through created nature yet is free to work without, above, or against it as well. In casual usage, miracle is seen as any event that is statistically unlikely, but beneficial, such as surviving a natural disaster, or simply a wonderful occurrence, regardless of likelihood, such as a birth. Other miracles might be: survival of a terminal illness, escaping a life threatening situation or beating the odds. Some coincidences may be seen as miracles, for instance, “ God I need a parking space”, and then there is a parking space…then the driver says “Oh God Thank You anyways, “ I found one on my own”. Needless to say God provide in this coincidence.…

Many people engage in community service project because they are either forced as a punishment or sentence. Others engage in community service out of Spirit of unselfishness, or a desire to connect with their communities by helping out. For me, it brings a sense of completeness. During the past few semester my team members and I have engage in different projects, Collecting food, clothes and donating to the homeless. In a way I’ve experience working the different organizations and helping the community. But with this particular project, it meant much more then collecting for the disadvantaged, It was about lending a hand and your heart to a community in need.. During my involvement in this fieldwork project I got the opportunity to offer my unconditional assistance for one day in a non-profit making community based project. The name of the project was Liberty City Construction, which is being undertaken by a Christian ministry organization whose aim is to improve the livelihood of low-income families through building affordable and decent houses at a 0% interest rate. The organization founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda fuller has built and rehabilitated more then 100,000 families in need, becoming the world leader in addressing the issues if poverty housing. They work in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all social, economic, and ethic group to expand communities with people in need by building an renovating houses so that everyone can experience God’s love and can live and grow in to all the God intends. For that particular day, three of my group members and I…

The events were very educational and I learned a lot. College was a brand new experience for me. I attend the Newman Center of campus for mass, and it is a great experience. It helps one grow in their faith with a community of their peers. It leads to great friendships with likeminded people. All of these opportunities presented to me during my life led me to have a great faith life and great relationship with god. However, nothing compares to my experience at Catholic Youth Camp!! I camped for 2 years and counseled for 5. Camp has a major influence on my life. I always loved camp. Going as camper was so much fun and I had a great time. I would grow in my faith, and make new friends. When I became a counselor I was uncertain if I would like it at first because it would be a different experience. However, very quickly I found that it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Being a counselor gave you the opportunity to help the kids and possibly change lives. It was great to see the kids growing in their faiths throughout the week, and I felt like I got more out of counseling than I ever did camping. Not only do you help children grow in their faith, and have tons…

Throughout the day I realized that all the different types of products I use and how each one of the items come different parts of the world. The items that I used and consumed seemed to have come from far parts of the world and from close areas. Since I live on campus all of the beds on campus are made in china, I assume that the reason the beds are produced in China was because they needed a place that could do mass production. I do not believe that the beds that were made in China were made in an ethically manner. In china children create a lot of the things that we use in America, the reason why they use children in China is because children work harder and cheaper than adults. While it is not ethical it is still important to take into consideration that since there are so many people the need for items that we use daily must be fulfilled. The items that were made in the Asian counties were cheaper and seemed to come in a larger quality, compared to the items I have that were made in America.…

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in Kairos XI through Fairfield’s Campus Ministry. The experience proved to be very interesting, packed with all different sorts of emotions. For me, the retreat was initially a bit awkward because I was one of the only seniors and I did not know many of the other students. However, I soon overcame this issue and by the end of the trip I had made many new friends. The retreat has been planned out since December, which shows how much time the team leaders put into making the Kairos experience truly meaningful for all of its participants. The weekend getaway was just what I needed to take some time and reflect about my life and what direction I wanted to head in. It also helped me to realize that God has not had much presence in my life lately, a problem I need to resolve.…

There are a lot of books that have been written over what the different spiritual gifts are and how they are supposed to be used. There are quite a few verses in the New Testament that covers the spiritual gifts and how we are to use them. In 1 Corinthians 12:4-8 we are told, “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the sane God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same spirit.” The Bible…
