ROLE OF A HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE WORKER
AT 7.15AM I CLOCK IN AND TAKE MY COAT AND BAG OFF AND LOCK THEM IN MY LOCKER SO I AM READY TO START MY SHIFT STRAIGHT AWAY, EVEN THOUGH I SOMETIMES SOCIALISE WITH SOME OF THE STAFF I WORK WITH I ENSURE I AM IN THE RIGHT FRAME OF MIND TO WORD PROFFESIONALLY WITH THEM AND NOT PERSONALLY SO THAT WE ARE ABLE TO WORK AS PART OF A TEAM AND ARE ABLE TO DO THE JOBS THAT WE ARE EMPLOYED TO DO, THEN I WILL WALK INTO THE DINING ROOM TO WAIT FOR THE NIGHTSTAFF WHO ARE ON, ONCE ALL THE STAFF FOR THE MORNING SHIFT HAVE ARRIVED THE SENIOR MEMBER OF THE NIGHT SHIFT WILL GIVE HANDOVER TO ALL THE STAFF WHO ARE STARTING THE MORNING SHIFT. THEY WILL GO THROUGH THE LIST OF RESIDENTS EXPLAINING HOW THEY WERE THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT AND ALSO THE HANDOVER THAT THEY WERE GIVEN FROM THE. PREVIOUS EVENING SHIFT, THEY EXPLAIN HOW THEY SLEPT OR DIDN'T, WHEATHER THEY ARE STILL ASLEEP IN BED OR HAVE GOTTEN UP FOR THE DAY, THEY WILL ALSO PASS ON ANY MESSAGES FROM THE PREVIOUS EVENING SHIFT (IF ANY) OR ASK THE MORNING STAFF TO READ THE MESSAGE LEFT IN THE STAFF COMMUNICATION BOOK IN THE OFFICE. THEN THE SENIOR MEMBER OF THE NIGHTSTAFF WILL HAD ME THE SENIOR KEYS (MEDICATION KEYS). ONCE I HAVE RECIEVED THE HANDOVER FROM THE NIGHTSTAFF I GO INTO THE OFFICE TO READ THE SENIOR BOOK TO SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING I NEED TO DO ON MY SHIFT (CALL G.P OUT OR BOOK TRANSPORT FOR A UPCOMING APPOINTMENT FOR A RESIDENT) I WILL ALSO READ THE STAFF COMMUNICATION BOOK TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY MESSAGES FROM PREVIOUS SHIFTS (ESPECIALLY IF I HAVE BEEN OFF FOR A DAY OR TWO). ALSO I WILL CHECK TO SEE WHO HAS REQUESTED A BATH FOR THE MORNING. I WILL THEN GO TO THE NEAREST BATHROOM WASH MY HANDS AND ENSURE I WEAR THE RIGHT COLOURED APRON (RED- FOR PERSONAL CARE) AND GLOVES ( WHITE LATEX FREE). I WILL THEN GO AND ASSIST THE REMAINING RESIDENTS IN BED TO GET WASHED AND DRESSED FOR THE DAY, IF THEY ARE READY TO GET UP. I KNOCK ON THE RESIDENTS DOOR BEFORE
