I have been in hairdressing for 26 years and a salon owner for ten years. I will be using David Kolb’s 4-part cycle of learning as part of my reflection experience.

Since starting this college course I have seen many similarities with how to interact with students and employees. I have also gained confidence speaking in front of the class. At the start of the college course this scared the life out of me. Now I realise the more I do it the less frightening it will be.
I have learnt fear has two meanings

a: When explaining the importance of promoting appropriate behaviour in respect for others, this was something the class did on our first evening. We created a class contract of what we expect from each other as a group. We expect to be listened to, to be friendly and to provide constructive feedback.
b: Last week in class we spoke about equality and diversity, Garry mentioned that in his school there were two brothers who came to school on alternate days as their parents could only afford one pair of shoes. This is something that I found hard to hear. I never imagined that in this day and age vulnerable adults are sharing shoes. I think it’s fantastic that the school loans uniform so everyone looks the same. My idea of equality was not
