Week One
This week in “Health Care Information Systems” Chapter one “Introduction to Health Care Information” What I learned in this is about the purposes of patient records; patient care, communication, legal documentation, billing and reimbursement, research and quality management, and population health. They say electronic recording of healthcare information is better than paper recoding, in my opinion electronic recording isn’t foolproof because human can still punch in the wrong information, don’t get me wrong the healthcare information systems can be important because there is always a backup system; it’s all a huge filing system on the computer. Patient records are an important means by which physicians, nurses, and others can communicate with one another about patient needs. Chapter two “Health Care Data Quality” I learned in this chapter; what is the difference between data and information? The simple answer is that information is processed data. A health care establishment has to stay current with regulations, laws and standards. Chapter four “History and Evolution of Health Care Information Systems” This chapter was interesting. Medicare and Medicaid were signed by Lyndon Johnson in the mid 60’s, it brings me to mind of my mother who just recently received an iPad for her birthday, and she’s 73. She’s still trying to navigate Facebook.
Issues or Problems in Week One I didn’t have much of an issue the week in Health Care Information Systems, I learned a lot and I hope when I graduate I can still remember everything. I look forward in what week two has in store for
