The College Planning and Preparation course has provided me with an array of knowledge about college. I learned about financial aid, I looked up different colleges, and learned a lot about what I needed to do in order to get into the college of my choice. I also learned about the different activities college provides and about the college atmosphere. College Planning and Preparation taught me how to research different colleges, to writing college essays, and how to get the most out of college.…
I’d like to discuss two things in my additional essay (1) My undergraduate GPA and (2) A few gaps in my work experience. First and foremost, I want to talk a little about Bits Pilani and how Indian schools approach undergraduate education.…
As a child, I always admired and respected men and women who served the United States in the Navy and armed forces. These positions required a lot of sacrifice which meant that only the strongest willed of them made it through. That will power seemed to distinguish them from other members of society, they were mentally and physically stronger. When it came time for me to look into applying for colleges, I looked for places that had good engineering programs, top tier educations, and a structured student campus life. Many universities had the former two requirements, however, very few had the latter requirement. While discussing college options with my computer engineering teacher, he recommended I look into the United States Naval Academy…
This semester has had a lot of work especially in English II, but I’m glad it was like that because I have learned a lot in my English class. I’ll be talking about a few things that I learned this semester. Like discrimination, debating, and how to convince people to change their mind about something.…
The reason I choose APUS was because I was looking to pursue my degree with the luxury of flexibility. By flexibility, I mean simply time. I know college could be a scary decision, more high school with overdue papers and stress, I’ll pass. This was because the only scope on college I had were the constant reminders of tons of useless work that goes unnoticed. The idea of being in a classroom so large the professor has no Idea I exist. I know what you’re thinking, why not a community college? Well, community college would have been great, if I had the funds. This leaves me with a loss of words as well as ways to continue my education, or so I thought. I was looking for help and my mother asked me a simple question that I thought was ridiculous.…
I have learned much in my 11 years in California public school. I learned to write in cursive; I learned my times tables; I learned the equation for a line, and I learned a thing or two about Shakespeare. However, the most important thing I learned is that is that the Common Core doesn’t work. The Common Core Standards Initiative is an approach to keep all American students on the same page. The problem is that it keeps all of us on page 1. In my AP Calculus BC class, my 13 classmates and I are piloting a Common Core textbook. At first, everyone was excited to try something new, but now we groan at the sight of the textbook. While I passed the AP test for the first year of Calculus, it has been a challenge “reviewing” these concepts in the new style. Why change a system that was proven to be successful? California, one of the last states to implement Common Core, actually made a change for the worse. Therefore, I strongly believe that the 28th amendment to the Constitution should be the nationwide abolishment of Common Core.…
Due to the course Introduction to Liberal Arts, I was able to gain a multitude of scholarly attributes that overall contributed to my ability to understand the assigned passage in a critical manner and to construct my paper. The integrated studies course that I have been apart of for the last semester is very much essential to what I believe a liberal arts education should be and that is clearly also the case of the Monmouth College Faculty as well. The class is essential to mine and my fellow students’ developing intellect. Within my individual Introduction to Liberal Arts class, we focused on three main readings: Curious, Eating Animals, and Persepolis. We also addressed the three required articles: Master of Many Trades, Interest as the Missing Motivator in Self-Regulation, and “Only Connect…”. These together allowed myself and my class to be engulfed in the initial liberal arts experience.…
I started this quarter with the hope that I could improve my writing skills and become a better writer and learn and improve my writing processes. I do believe I have accomplished that to some extent.…
A writer might view a film and discuss or write their impressions, write a list…
Post University is a small school built upon a small community. Although this school has been around for 125 years, it is very undeveloped compared to the major schools in its surroundings. For this reason, I believe Post University cannot offer me an education that is worthwhile. This school also lacks in many other aspects. These flaws have led me to make the decision of furthering my education elsewhere. I have made the mistake of staying in an institution that benefits more from you than you do them and now that my future is in my hands, I will not let that same mistake happen again. On my new journey, I hope to land somewhere that offers me the resources I need to help in my success, a school that will not limit me yet guide and assist me in all areas sensible. An institution that I can give credit to for my success not only in the field of profession but internally as a person as well.…
I was perched eighty feet up in the treetop canopy. Although the weather was modest, the daunting heights had oppressed my nerves and shrouded my skin with reflective sweat. I quaked as I agilely swung from one obstacle to the next. My legs, mind, and hands were all fatigued and wrenched, yet the incentive of achieving my goal of finishing the entire obstacle course was enough for me to endure the drudgery a little longer.…
My first semester has taught me how to write various types of essays. The first kind of essay I learned to write was a critical reading essay. It taught me how to summarize an essay. Summarizing involves making sure to state the author’s main ideas, not making the text persuasive or misrepresent the author’s ideas, and to inform the reader about what the text summarized is about. The second kind of paper was a response essay; it made me examine and relate a piece of artwork to a time in my life. Next was a self-critique essay and the main point was for me to look at how I write my papers. I was to see what I needed to work harder at and to focus more on in my essays, such as the thesis and introduction paragraph. I also found what works for me when writing an essay, such as writing it during the morning and writing after a meal. Another type of essay I learned how to write was a rhetorical analysis essay. I had to look for ethos, pathos, and logos and see how the author wrote and if it was effective. The…
Like you I also had a deceit amount of writing experience coming into law school, in addition to writing a senior thesis in undergraduate. I also am not a big editor. Like Elaine, I rarely if ever edited my papers before handing them in (of course I edited my thesis). Because I never received below a B on my papers and received good feedback, I felt it was unnecessary to do any extra work. Now, I clearly see how flawed this reasoning is. As I mentioned in another response post, because I do not like to edit, I tend to start early in drafting my work and take ample breaks in between edits (a day or so). I also have trouble writing outlines. Although I would argue that it is not necessary to outline for all writing, it is a helpful and necessary…
Teaching and Learning in a Diverse Society has truly opened my eyes to what I will be facing in a classroom, whether it be the type of students I will be teaching or how I will teach my students a controversial topic. It gave me many different ways to bring up a hard topic that someone people would feel uncomfortably teaching to younger students. Not only did it open my eyes it has helped me think in abstract ways on topics that are new to me and being able to see the situation in other point of views. This was all possible by taking part in all possible actives inside and outside the classroom.…
My previous experience with my english classes has been very fun and informative as my past teachers have been Mrs. Rocha for American Literature Honors and Ms. Filice, two teachers that are great at what they do and helping their students succeed as a write; however, the one thing that I did not like about these classes is the numerous essays throughout the year. The one thing that excited…
