Reflective Essay: Moving To New Jersey
An exciting experience that changed my life was moving to New Jersey in 2013. Moving to New Jersey led me to compete in National History Day (NHD). Furthermore, I got into a Gifted and Talented school for the first time. This resulted in me making incredible friends and having amazing teachers.
If you do not know, National History Day is a rigorous History competition. The competition divides into five different categories, the category I competed in was the exhibit category. Each year the competition selects a new theme, last year's theme was “Exploration, Encounter, Exchange”. I decided to focus my exhibit on Ernest Shackleton, with this unique and interesting focus I made it to the national competition. In fact, I got the opportunity to travel to Maryland for five days with no payment. The experience was extraordinary, I was able to meet people from all over the world. It might be called National History Day, but it is definitely an International competition. For example, there were people from South Korea and China at the

The Paterson Academy for the Gifted and Talented was an experience itself. For example, I got to dissect a cow eyeball. It might have been gruesome but, it was a remarkable experience. I was able to make incredible, friends and had amazing teachers that made learning straightforward for me. In that school year, I had numerous amusing field trips. Such as, a trampoline park, and the aquarium. Plenty of the trips were both educational and fun. The trampoline park probably wasn't educational but it sure was fun. We even had trips that supported the environment. For instance, the 7th grade did a clean up at the Great Falls, and we were taught how to make an eco-friendly cleaning product. There was not one day where I did not learn, laugh, or have fun at least once. My year at The Patterson Academy for the Gifted and talented was truly exceptional and

After one week, I got my first letter from Alexander Gregory. The letter showed exactly my thoughts about the uneasy human-service, but this was not the point. The thing that made my curious was a name, a simple name. It made me hold on my breath and a lump was in my throat – I was literally shocked. Solomon Lewis. This was the old man Alexander Gregory cared about and he had the same name like my father.…

Before I moved to NC , I lived out west. The demographic and food delicacies are far different than here in the south. My taste aversion was fully loaded hot dog with chili and slaw. I never heard of that type of combination on a hot dog. I was raised eating a hot dog with just ketchup, mustard, relish and sometimes onions. I have lived in NC for about 23 years. I finally tried eating a hot dog Carolina style and love it. Since I have gluten allergy, I skip the bun and still eat it that way.…

One day in English, we were asked to talk about a life changing incident in our lives. I have had this assignment before but I was to sad to talk about such a subject. We go around the circle. In 1752 I was a seventeen year old destitute living in Scotland, Ireland. I had no real skill-trade or education, but with high ambitions to learn and become a collective dependant I would earn a stable lively-hood in one of the New World colonies. I suffered losses of loved who fell sick and died with only a few remaining that were as impoverished as myself. I feared there would be no prospect of a better life in Scotland and contracted myself as an indentured servant for passage to the New World colonies. Along with many others I boarded a New World merchant ship that specialized in the trade of textiles and clothing. In exchange for travel, food, and decent health, I was sold for profit to proprietors in the New World. The voyage to New…

Overall, this experience was very rewarding because we created nothing into something and as a result our project helped families who generally have lower incomes have the necessary school supplies for their children to be successful in school without forcing them to give up something else up. This project has opened my eyes to things happening around me and allowed me to become a more active and engaged community member while I was able to delve deeper into something that I'm interested and passionate…

On the contrary, one thing Paterson has that New York doesn’t is the vibe a person gets that makes Paterson feel welcoming and a comfortable area to live in. in other words, Paterson is so diverse and has a numerous amount of religions, one would tend to think it’s a racial and segregated region. However, it really isn’t, in fact people like me are so fond of it. For instance, I went to HARP Academy, in my freshmen year and the middle of my sophomore year in high school. I figured if I attended a small school I would learn better and like it. But it was disappointing to me. So I looked up Passaic County Technical Institute and it came to my attention that this institute was huge and sounded pretty exciting. My friends encouraged me to apply and I joined the Academy of Information Technology at PCTI. To start with, I never ever saw so many people in one hallway in my life. Conversely, in the sum of it all, I loved it. I loved being surrounded by unusual and unique people. It never occurred to me as too how much you can learn from a person. Thanks to PCTI I love and take pleasure in being a part of a large and popular…

An event I've experienced that was life changing was when I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. It was an affirmation of years of disciplined work and study to have such a prestigious honor bestowed upon me. In scouting, I developed various moral and ethical tenants that have shaped my foundation in life. Tenants like integrity, honor, reverence, faith in God, a man's role and his responsibility to his family, and a nearly innumerable quantity of experiences growing under the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America have molded me into who I am today in my very core of being. The realization of my dream to become an Eagle Scout took 11 years to obtain, so I'm no stranger to adversity or perseverance. To my memory,…

I moved here when I was 16 years old, and it made a really big change for me, because I came to the different country, by myself, without anybody who I knew, and I started completely different life. I was by myself. At first it was hard for me, because I missed my family, and being taken care of. But then I realized that there is nobody who will take care of me, and I should never expect anyone to. I understood that my home is where I am. Also, my big passion since I was little was art. In kindergarten, elementary and middle school I took part in many theatre competition, later on I started participating painting and drawing contest. Last year I decided to focus on physics and become a scientist. I never liked math and physics before, but I just recently I found it interesting, so I make a decision to be good at it. Having lived in a variety of countries, I have developed a level of interest and compassion for various communities and environments. I often felt like an outsider when my family and I would initially move to a new city. The unique experience of being able to look into a community or society from the outside allowed myself to not only appreciate but also analyze my surroundings. Growing up in South Korea, California and Louisiana, due to my father’s work, allowed me to appreciate different cultures while developing an awareness for the greater, overarching society of the world. I was able to be a part of the individual culture of each distinct community while developing an appreciation for the way in which all communities are connected.…

When I look back at my High School experience senior year was astounding, mainly due to my distinctive institution. I had the opportunity to partake on the football team, track & field team and was a honor student. Another benefit from my alma mater was the diversity of the institution and large number of students (2000 students). In my opinion Wilson Senior High School was the best DC Public School with high test scores and extracurricular activities for everyone.…
