I have written four major arguments for this class: summary, basic argument, rhetorical analysis, and synthesis, instructed by Dr. Tina Giovanielli. Although I believe all four arguments were strong, for the purpose of this reflective assignment I am going to choose one argument that I think is my strongest piece of writing then analyze it and explain why I think that is my best work.
I believe my last assignment (synthesis) was very challenging at first but it ended up to be my strongest piece in the whole semester. Since I have never done any synthesis before this one, I found it difficult to understand the fundamental of a synthesis argument. I simply read through all three sources, then I made an outline of all the arguments and counter-arguments that I found to be interesting to write about. After cogitating about the arguments then I started to shape my thesis statement for the paper four. I must admit that I received outstanding tips from my instructor and classmates, led me to come up with a neat and strong thesis statement for the topic I have chosen “Equality of Men and Women.” As an example: I learned from my instructor to narrow down my introduction part of the synthesis argument to the point I want to make so that audience can fully understand the argument I am going to make later on in my thesis statement.
In the process of completing paper four, I have learned how my previous knowledge about writing a summary, basic argument, and rhetorical analysis can help me to advance myself into writing an effective synthesis paper.
