Reflective Essay On Daylight Saving Time
I went to bed at about 10:30 PM, which is right on my short term goal for the week. My actions were somewhat conductive to my goal because I made myself go to bed at 10:30 PM by avoiding naps. I was tired earlier and should have went to bed an hour earlier than my goal because it would've helped me prep myself for Daylight Savings Time. I didn't go to bed earlier because I was tempted to stay on my

The last time I recall that I had not gotten enough sleep would have been when my middle child had to have oral surgery. I don’t really know if it was because she was going under and she hadn’t been before, if it was the fact that my little girl was going to have surgery for the first time. I tried for several hours to fall asleep, but my mind would not stay still. I finally decided to get up and try to doze off to the television, after that did not work I made some coffee and worked on my assignment. When it was time to get up my husband and my little girl I was exhausted, as if I was at work all day. I drove us to where we needed to go with no problem, but as we sat in the waiting room I dozed off for a few hours.…

One of the most prominent social constructs that has been in place since the Mayan civilization is that of time, which has gone on to become one of the most integral parts of human life. Ever since the creation of a standard time system, people have been searching for ways to save time in the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives in order to get the most time that they can out of one day. One such method that has been implemented around much of the world is that of Daylight Savings Time, or DST, in order to maximize the amount of daylight during different seasons. The creation of DST, just like the usage of other controversial solutions to solve societal problems, has sparked a debate about whether the system actually provides any benefit,…

One of the first things I learned upon entering the proud United States Army was to be at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform, with the right attitude. No Soldier can go wrong as long as they stick to those guidelines. That said, there are Soldiers that do happen to slip up and find that they are not at the right place at the right time. Those people are most commonly known as ‘’no shows”. What do I mean by “no shows”? “No shows” are the Soldiers that fail to show up at their "place of duty" at the time they were designated to be there.…

In the essay “Our Time” by John Edgar Wideman he often takes a break from the narrative to address that he has many problems as a writer. He does this to try to consciously address these problems and hopefully solve these problems. He believes that if these problems are not rectified he would destroy any chance he has at telling a truthful account of his brother’s story. To rectify these problems he employs a variety of unique techniques in his writing. Looking at these techniques it is not always 100% clear how these are fixing his problems. It is also evident that the way he is writing may be going against a lot of things we were taught in school about our writing.…

School start times is a major issue for students. It’s has either been affecting them academically, or by reducing the students sleep time. Some schools have made the change of delaying start times, hoping for an improvement in students. Studies have shown that delaying start times have a beneficial effect on students. School Start Time Should be delayed early in the morning. Delaying start times could help students academically and increase sleep time. On the other hand, some might say sleeping is not the most necessary thing of the day. Stating “The amount a sleep a student gain doesn’t affect their academic performance.” Even…

    Behavioral Change

In my self-directed behavioral change project, I encountered a lot of difficult challenges and obstacles in reaching my ultimate goal: a better night’s sleep. My goals for this behavioral change project were to establish a proper sleep and bedtime regimen, getting a full-night’s rest and ultimately feeling more alert and energetic through the day. My main goals were to improve my sleep cycle/regimen by getting the necessary eight hours of sleep I need every night and waking up in the morning feeling fully rested and not sleepy, tired, or groggy at all. This is what I set out to do and I recorded all the times I went to bed, times I’d fall asleep, times I’d wake up in the middle of the night, and times I’d wake up next morning. I recorded all of my observations and occurrences for two weeks and noticed some positive change in my bed-time pattern. I was able to get the necessary eight hours of sleep every night and felt a difference the next day.…

The first goal that I have set for myself is to completely change my sleeping schedule to where I have a bedtime and am sleeping for eight hours. I’ve noticed that dark circles have appeared below my eyes, which indicates me that my body is not receiving the dose of sleep it needs. My second goal for myself is to always have breakfast in the mornings because breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast is the meal that keeps you energized to keep you going through the day. I personally always skipped breakfast because I always though breakfast was never important, but was I wrong. You actually gain more weight than you lose by skipping breakfast because you body needs more fuel. By waking up earlier, I will be able to have breakfast for myself and give my body the food it’s always asking for. My last goal is to always reach the 10,000 steps that can always be acquired by exercising more frequently. The 10,000 steps a day is a good number to reach, any amount of activity beyond what you're currently doing will likely benefit your health. So far, I am on track with my goals that I have set for myself and slowly am starting to notice changes.…

When it comes to a situation in which I did not get enough sleep, with going to school and working full time and having children there are many situations where I did not get enough sleep. The situation I chose out of all of them was not that long ago. I wake up at 6:00 am, drive to Glendora, CA from Pomona, CA to wake up my children and have them get ready for school, then I go back to Pomona, CA to clean the house or I go back to the Glendora, CA to work in my dads office and whatever errands he needs done. After all that is done it is then time for me to go pick up my children from school and start doing their homework, make dinner, clean up the stuff from dinner and then get them showered and into bed. After all that is done it is time for me to do homework which depending on the assignment takes a few hours and so by the time I go to bed it is anywhere between 4 and 5 in the morning.…

    Essay On Shabbat

The Jewish culture has been documented as far back as 1800 Before Christ (BC) (Religious Facts, 2017). Their belief comes from the first five books of Hebrew better known to most as the “Old Testament” of the Bible. This is called the “Torah” or Jewish Written Law which contains the commands they are to follow (Jewish Virtual Library, 2017). Shabbat is Hebrew for cease or rest and represents God’s day of rest, as noted in the book of Bereishit (Genesis), and is devoted to higher pursuits of spiritual enrichment including Jewish literature, poetry and music (Jewish Virtual Library, 2017). Shabbat is considered the most important ritual observed in Judaism as it is the only one instituted in the Ten Commandments (Jewish Virtual Library, 2017). It is during a Shabbat that ceremonies of Bat or Bar Mitzvahs are performed. It is interesting that most non-Jewish people, this writer included, believe Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah refers only to the ceremony held as a rite of passage. In actuality, the titles are used interchangeably for both…

The short story “One Friday Morning” by Langston Hughes is about a young African American girl, Nancy Lee, who recently moved to the north with her parents so they may provide her with a better life and schooling. Extremely talented in watercolor painting, she aspired to make that her major in college. Because of racial discrimination, she was denied the scholarship that would have been her ticket to a brighter future. Sadly, there are some people in the world that are blinded by race and forget how America was supposed to be a place with equal rights and justice for all. Langston Hughes brings in themes like racism, equal rights between human beings, racial and national pride, and of course the American dream. His biggest aim is to show the world how colored people are treated and that present day America doesn’t fulfill the American dream of all men being equal.…

A city council is debating the adoption of a 10 p.m. weekday curfew and midnight curfew for teenagers. If this curfew is adopted, teenagers on the streets after those hours would be considered breaking the law. I support this adoption because we would be keeping the city safer and keeping the young adults safe and out of trouble after dark.…
