Reflective Essay On Link Crew
Most recently, I’m partaking in Pam Damoff’s Youth Advisory Council which is a replica of Justin Trudeau’s council in the Oakville and North-Burlington region located in Ontario’s GTA. I hope to inspire change and initiate a social shift in youth’s mentality in recognizing our own power as a new generation. I want to demonstrate how undoubtedly capable youths are to create positive change by modeling initiative actions especially with such readily available tools and information at our fingertips. Furthermore, I’ve been actively involved in my school’s Link Crew program with a notable enthusiasm for 2 years. Link Crew is a club devoted to aiding grade 9 students to efficient, safe and prosperous transition into high school. As leaders, it’s our responsibility to build a …show more content…
With a sole 2 week participation as a camp counsellor, I was granted the club’s volunteer of the week award. Some of my public-service support consists of aiding public events for the Canadian Cancer Society, opening the dialogue concerning mental health in my school, and advocating for injustices by signing numerous petitions. This is followed by sharing these pledges on social media in aims to educate my peers. Currently, I’m expressing my perception of my generation in an article for my school magazine. I hope to invoke a desire within my peers about the power we hold as youths and encourage us to challenge social norms rather than belittling ourselves through embracing a negative social label that brands us as a whining and thoughtless generation. To end, I was selected as a grade 12 representative for my school as part of student council, thus, I plan to encourage my community to engage in events with high spirits and be supportive of

Thus, the true problem in society is that the older generation is immensely underappreciated. Although they may have outdated ideals, or different values than today’s younger generation, their sacrifices and great contributions to the world should not pass by, unnoticed. This young generation tends to be very egocentric, and therefore, a majority of respect towards authority has diminished. A prime example of this behavior are the numerous riots taking place across America. If young and old generations can never see eye to eye, disrespect will only become stronger with each new…

In Ann Hulbert's "Beyond the Pleasure Principle", she outlines the Millennial Generation and some of the qualities that set this unique generation apart from the rest of the generations. The Millennial Generation is at one of the greatest social crossroads in our history as a country, as political ideology divides the nation like no time ever before. We as a generation are growing up in a time when political ideology threatens to gridlock the country; A time where media outlets spin and manufacture the news to suit one political ideology or the other; A time in which multiple social issues are being pushed to the forefront of political platforms. This is the setting for my generation and the influence that it has on us. I am the Millennial Generation.…

In the end, link crew has subtly forced me to become a leader who strives to connect, encourage, and inspire positive change. Being a link crew leader has really helped me developed my questioning and relationship skills. I honestly feel like I have grown because of this program, and strongly believe that more people should become more involved in it. It is still amazing how this is the only program where everyone in the school is connected to it in some way. I am very glad that I became a link leader, and I will carry these values and memories with me throughout the rest of my…

Since the beginning of this school year, I have been visiting La Cumbre twice a month to help coordinate school events and elections and advise students about leadership. This experience has allowed me to make a difference in my community by helping students grow, while growing more myself. My hope is that, in the future, leadership programs involve all students. I believe that school leadership needs to be representative of all the demographic groups, not just the…

Chartering and being in charge of a club can be very rewarding, but there can also be a plethora of obstacles that have to be overcome. I am the president of the Best Buddies program – a program that seeks to increase interactions between people with and without special needs – at my high school, and I was the first person in my county to charter this program which was back when I was in the eighth grade. Being the President of this specific club is very challenging and unique: it requires you to work with a wide variety of students – in the mainstream setting and those with special needs – and those students’ parents. From these challenges, I learned the value of persistence and the importance of keeping to your word no matter what life…

It is very apparent that today’s generation has changed greatly since generation of the “baby boomers”. Children in the current generation are coming into a completely different world than it was just 30 years ago. From almost every kid owning a cell phone, televisions being flat, and social networking, it is obvious this isn’t the same world that our grandparents, and even our parents were raised in. Looking back at the generation of the “baby boomers”, it’s hard to even imagine what life would have been like. The “boomers” grew up in a time of where war was an occurring thing, from World War I, World War II, and even the war in Vietnam. They grew up in the time of the great depression, where bread lines and soup kitchens were a part of many families’ lives. Even technology was far from what it is today. Families were lucky to have one television in their house, people actually used land-line telephones, and a person having a cell phone was unlikely. The book Generation Me does a great job of pointing out any difference between the “boomer” generation, and generation “me”. From the way kids are taught in school, the way kids treat other people, and even the attitude about one’s self has completely changed. The author, Jean M. Twenge, Ph.D., notices every minor change that has occurred between the two generations, and comprised a book that will have you noticing things about yourself that you may have never noticed before.…

As a student, I try to achieve as many goals as possible. I have try to the best the student I could possibly be. I will admit this year wasn't the best for me. My grades weren't the greatest. But I don't grades should be the only thing that determines a high school student. I think who the person is on the inside what makes a high school student. I am a very kind person. I hate injustice done on anyone. I always stand up for what I believe in. I feel everyone should be given a fair chance in anything they do. I love being able to help anyone. I love knowing something I do can change someone's life. I use to do the Latin Club. I use to do the Earth Club. I use to do Build On. This year I have been more forced on the SATs and college. I want be a lawyer. Being able to someone is what love. The only thing I do outside of school is volunteer at the Norwalk Shelter. One challenge I faced in high school had to do with peer pressure. I was offered the chance to try weed. I knew that so many people at school did it, and I thought this was my chance to be popular. I didn't do it. I realized those people didn't want to be my friend. I realized that I didn't need to be popular. I am happy with my life just the way it is. I know who my friends are and it isn't those people. I realized I wanted to do it to become something I am not. I learned that day I should never lose my integrity. Someone once said, “Thoughts become words, words become actions, actions become character, character is everything." I didn't want to become that person I would have if I said yes. I wish I knew as a freshman to get involved more. When you are involved, it will help you in the long run, especially for college. Plus it is a great way to meet new people. In the lunch, I sit right across from the girl's restroom in the cafeteria. I sit with a cool and supportive group of friends. I love them like family. There you have it, I little bit about myself. I really want to do Link Crew because you get to…

This is a time in an adolescent’s life where they feel the most need for acceptance from their peers. They have a need to be more experimental, innovative and sometimes controversial. They are at a time where they have to keep reinventing themselves so they fit in with their peers and society in general. Teenagers emphasise freedom but with this freedom come responsibilities and obligations that they don’t want nor do they think they need. Teenagers are at an age where they think they are adults but they don’t understand…

With the way this new generation has such easy access to information over the Internet and socially networking sites, it facilitates them to become more socially conscious. Also, with the effects of the financial crisis still lingering around, this new generation is beginning to find unappealing careers that focus just on making money. Perhaps today’s youth is realizing that everyone’s lives in this world is more intertwined than we believed. We can no longer just look out for ourselves and we can’t decide to help others once we have all the money we want. Instead we should help others as we make our money.…
