I liked the topic of “How do you customize your text with highlighting and notes” this topic was very important and useful for me, I used to underline the text and write small notes only with pencil, which is all in one color, and then I lose the main important ideas among all the same lines, never thought of using other colored pens so I don’t be distracted, but I used colored pens with this chapter which really made it easier for me to follow the important ideas and different notes.…

I think the most important thing for anyone, is to constantly expose yourself to the language you are trying to learn. This of course goes for me as well, and luckily it is not a hard thing to do in today’s society with the massive influx of American and British television/movies, music and games. This is mainly the things that helped me learn the English language as I grew up, along with of course, the Internet. Aside from the constant exposure I get from the things I listed above, I think the things that will prove most important to me when it comes to learning the English language in the near future will be pure “live” interaction with it. Talking, discussing and expressing myself to others in English.…

Because when I came to the United States at a young age I faced a lot challenges and hardships but I decided to keep going and stay resilient. One of the challenges I faced was learning the English language. At the beginning when I arrived the U.S I did know any single word in English and that was upsetting and sad to me because everybody in my school knew how to speak it. English language has always been a difficult language to learn for me. But, I try to not give up and I am improving in it through my diligence. Nevertheless, I was dedicated to develop my English skills through learning and studying new vocabulary words and tried to use them in my daily life dialogues. My growth mindset was pushing me every single day to learn and face my obstacles. I also liked to read a lot of books which improved my reading skills and correspondingly gave me new words and notions. Despite, sometimes I do not understand the senses of the words while reading it I used a dictionary. I listened to music and read the lyrics of the songs because I have told that this is one of the effective methods to learn a language. On the other hand, I have taken plenty of workshops, programs on how to progress in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. I know learning a language is hard but what it is harder is to not give up and stay focused on my own work. I have failed a lot of times in the past but once I fail I…

All of the topics have been relevant, significant, and interesting. If I had to pick one topic that was the “hardest” for me it would be gay marriage. This is because my only and older brother recently told me that he is gay. He shared this news with me about four months ago. It was not the most surprising news but I am still figuring out and learning what its like to have a gay brother. Over the past four months he has been telling family members and friends at times that have been available. Learning about gay marriage hit me on a more personal level since it affects my brother, myself and family. I have always been a strong supporter for gay rights and marriage for as long as I can remember. The scientific purpose of marriage is to procreate and raise children but not all people get married because their priority in life is to have children. Many people get married with no intention to have children and just because they are in love and want to share the rest of their lives together. There are millions of children who are in need of families and allowing gay marriage is letting more options of couples raise and take care of these children in need of families. “Some same-sex couples argue that they want to marry for the same reasons that many opposite-sex couples do. But the personal reasons why any one individual couple chooses to marry are also not the primary concern of…

Let alone, one topic that resonated with me is the topic about psychological disorders. I didn't really know a lot of the disorders that this topic talk is about but after the course and the topic, I was able to understand different kinds of disorders that affects one and what one can do to prevent all those disorders. For instance, obsessive-compulsive disorders were one of the disorders that resonated me because learning this disorder enabled me to understand more how people get stressed. In the book, psychology in modules (11th Edition), the authors used the line “Obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors cross the fine line between normality and disorder when they persistently interfere with everyday living and cause distress” (Myers and Dewall, 2015, p. 622) Studying this topic mad me under more about how going through stress is not all about the the basic things like stressing over not getting good grades or stressing over an exam, however, the repetitive thoughts that keeps ringing in one's mind causes the stress. Additionally, the psychological disorder about repetitive thoughts enabled me to know that most thoughts that people are obsessed with are about dirt, germs, or toxins. Basically most people will think about the obsessive-compulsive disorder as repetitive though which is all about just families, heart breaks and other things. They are basic thought that repeats in our minds which can lead to stress and stress is another whole different disorder that can cause one to have a hard time to overcome.…

Positive learning experienceI have had many negative learning experiences, but at the same time I have had a good number of positive ones, that I have enjoyed and have benefited from greatly.Learning English as a foreign language at one of the clubs in my town back in Russia was, probably, the best learning experiences I have had so far. But what made it so positive?First of all, the motivation factor. I was 15 years old and very passionate about learning English. I wanted to be able to use it for my career as a teacher and simply in daily communication with my friends, American missionaries. The ability to speak another language opened up a whole new world for me of a different culture, people, literature, films, music and mentality. I spent 2 years learning English at this club. I was bit apprehensive at the start as my school English classes were not effective at all and did not help me in learning English, giving me an impression that it was completely my fault that I could not learn English. But after a few weeks at this club I felt relief, pride and personal satisfaction as I made a steady progress and was getting a noticeable result. Secondly, the lessons were of a very practical nature. The communicative approach was used to help us learn more affectively. We were actively participating in speaking, writing, listening and thinking. The tasks were challenging, difficult but achievable. My learning was enhanced by the potential applications of the English language after the lessons in speaking with my friends.Thirdly, the language we learnt was contemporary and up-to-date, so the learning was relevant and challenging. We were encouraged to learn English through reading books, watching films and even speaking to each other in English in daily life as the majority of learners did not have native speakers’ friends like I was fortunate to have. Another positive moment for me was that it was not a school environment. The atmosphere was relaxed and I did not feel…

I never really had problems with this language, but I’m still not the best. Not that I want to be the best. I just want to be more confident when I talk to other people, because I’ve always been afraid to say something wrong. I have to make sure, that I’m speaking correctly, so as I said, I really expect myself to step up, and really get something out of this class. I always had I problem with spelling in English though, and my grammar is not that good either, so that is two things I’d like to focus on. My punctuation is definitely bad, so now there are three things. But I still do believe that I have an ok foundation for learning this properly.…

Last year, I got 2 memorable accomplishments in my junior year. First of all, I achieved a good grade of English listening. It was the first time i began to study this subject, so I felt confused and worried. In other words, I could not hear completely what a speaker said and understand clearly to answer the questions. Nevertheless, relying on my endurance and patience helped me solve this problem. I spent two hours on listening exercises and listening to English songs every day. In addition, I learnt lots of vocabularies and pronunciation to absorb easily what I listened. Moreover, I tried to focus on key words and base on the spoken text to do exercises better. Day by day, I gradually improved this skill, and I could understand over 80% of chapters which I studied. In the final test, I got good grades in this subject. In addition, I had an after school job. I was a tutor to teach children who weren’t good at English. At the beginning, I felt that this job seemed quite difficult for me because I didn’t know how to explain clearly what the children didn’t understand. Thus, I tried to read several books to have many ways which could help me teach the children effectively. Through my efforts, there was happy ending because my students could improve themselves and become good students. Now, whenever I think those things which I have done, I feel very happy, and I take pride in myself.…
