Regarding the Bassoon

There's a lot of reasons why I chose the bassoon. For one, the first time I misread Bassoon for baboon which of course would seem odd to find in an orchestra. Now, Don't get me wrong, the bassoon and baboon have a lot in common-well actually, other then the red tone the baboon's bottom shares with the bassoon, they have nothing in common, so scratch that. The bassoon and baboon have nothing in common; they're extreme opposites. For instance the bassoon has a deep voice while a baboon makes high screeching noises when under attack. And the bassoon is actually slightly taller then the average size of a large baboon. That shocked me. Upon my misreading mishap, curiosity led me to research what a bassoon really was. To my surprise, it was a four foot oboe looking instrument, and its slender length captivated my interest. After youtubing a few bassoonist I immediately fell in love with a unique group of performers called The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet. The fact that they incorporated modern day music into their performance and used the bassoons large distinct shape as an extension of their body for dance, enticed me. At that moment I disregarded my original intention to do a report on the violin or piano and felt entitled to reveal to my audience how magnificent this at first, alien like instrument truly is. The bassoon originated from the dulcian. Post the invention of the bassoon was the contrabassoon, a lower sounding bassoon, but its sax like shape didn't draw my attention in the same manner as the bassoon did. You see, its lack of curves and long slender shape makes it some what of an oddity, which stands out in a crowd of piccolos, violins and the remainder of the orchestra. And its long shape actually gives way to a nine foot air pipe; That's taller then any bassoonist! The bassoon also plays an important role in the orchestra by providing the deep sounding melody that allows the remainder of the orchestra to use to keep rhythm or play along with
