Planteamiento del Problema

Regional Airlines está estableciendo un nuevo sistema telefónico para manejar las reservaciones de vuelos. Durante el periodo de 10:00 A.m. a 11:00 A.m. las llamadas del agente de reservaciones ocurren de forma aleatoria en un promedio de una llamada por cada 3.75 minutos, pasando el agente un promedio de 3 minutos por cliente.

La administración de Regional Airlines desea ofrecer un sistema de reservaciones eficiente, como parte de su orientación al servicio, pero no desea incurrir en un costo adicional al contratar persona que no sea necesario, ya que el costo por hora de un agente es de $20.00

Derivado de una reunión, el equipo de administración acordó una meta aceptable para responder al menos el 85% de las llamadas que llegan. También de dicha reunión, el vicepresidente llegó a la conclusión de tener un solo agente, pero el vicepresidente de mercadotecnia, replanteó el modelo para tener al menos dos agentes, con lo que el servicio no decaería representando una venta perdida.

Para llegar al mejor planteamiento del servicio, se obtendrá el análisis de los sistemas que se plantean:

1. Sistema de llamadas actual que no permite la espera y cuando los agentes están ocupados la bloquea.

2. Sistema de llamadas expandido, que permite la espera y se informa al cliente que los agentes están ocupados y que un agente estará disponible pronto.

Formulación del modelo.
De acuerdo con el planteamiento previo, se determina el siguiente modelo, en primer término, de un solo canal, donde la distribución de llegada es de tipo Poisson y los tiempos de servicio son exponenciales, de tal manera que el modelo planteado es de tipo: (M/M/1), donde: λ= Cantidad promedio de llegadas por periodo = 1 llamada cada 3.75 min = .26 llamadas por minuto μ= Cantidad media de unidades que pueden servirse por periodo = 1 llamada de 3 minutos por cliente= .33 llamadas por minuto
