Advanced Pharmacology has increased my knowledge and helped in preparing for the role of Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). This course afforded me an opportunity for outcome #3, MSN Essential IX, and #5 Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies to be met. These outcomes consisted of using contemporary communication modalities, recognizing nursing practice at the master level, and recognizing nursing practice at the master’s level, and technology and information literacy competencies.…
My insatiable appetite for knowledge coupled with compassion and commitment to nursing shape my desire to pursue a DNP in nurse anesthesia. Clinical rotations in OR as a close observer during an open Heart Surgery at the IMMC, while a student at the DePaul University also afforded me opportunity to see administration anesthetic drugs by a CRNA. In concretizing my interest to purse a DNP in Nurse Anesthesia, nothing can be more absolute than witnessing the births of our three children and the joy that they have brought in to my life. I saw firsthand as the nurse anesthetist administered the epidural…

In a study done at Seton Family of Hospital in Austin Texas by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 2008, the hospital was able to reduce the amount of time the staff spent gathering supplies and equipment and increase the amount of time spent at bedside with patients from 32% to 55% by having equipment and supplies readily available in patient’s rooms. Nurses will be able to maximize their time with the patient and create a deeper bond. Instead of saying “my patient in room 6121 it will be Mr. Hawkins who enjoys having hot tea with the morning paper.” A personalize relationship develops and grows into a trusting dynamic relationship in which a patient will feel safe to not only voice their medical concerns but any spiritual needs that may need addressing.…
They communicate with hundreds of people each day; therefore, doing so efficiently and carefully is difficult but essential. Anesthesiologists have a large number of people working under them that require their supervision (Novak). On a daily basis an anesthesiologist has to coordinate with other physicians, nurse anesthesiologists, their assistants, and their patients (Greenwood). Anesthesiologists are the role models for their assistants and nurses; hence, setting a good example and giving clear instructions is important to their work. Also, building a secure and trusting relationship with each patient is very important. Patients know that they are putting their life in their anesthesiologist’s hands and making them feel comfortable is critical. Sometimes an anesthesiologist meets with his patients only 10 minutes prior to surgery to discuss technical issues in a straightforward manner so patients are knowledgeable about the effects each anesthetic will have on them (“Anesthesiologist Career”). Also, patients are going to be stressed out and very nervous before surgery. Anesthesiologists need to be friendly and comforting to help their patients feel better; in addition to, the patient’s family or loved ones. (Greenwood). Being an anesthesiologist does not just take intelligence and an exceptional amount of education; it requires strong communication skills such as being…
With the healthcare industry growing every year and with the long term projections expected to continue growing steadily, you can’t go wrong choosing a career as a certified nursing assistant. The demand for nursing is skyrocketed over the past decade. Most importantly for younger people that are into helping elderly people. CNA are responsible for all things that deal with elderly persons giving them food to eat, making sure there environment is safe and clean, monitoring there health and transporting them to places. I personally look up to CNAs because there something like a police officer or firemen they help more than a little and some people don’t understand what they do. So in my report I will explain how and what a CNA does all the hard work they do in how they should feel so proud of themselves.…

When you think of someone who works in a place with the word “pediatric” attached, you may automatically know that this type of job works with children or those under 18. A pediatric nurse practitioner is someone who provides nursing care to children, adolescents, and infants (study.com, pg.1). This type of nurse has a Master’s Degree in nursing with a pediatric nurse practitioner focus meaning that this is what their specialty is. As a PNP, you won’t do the working on your own all the time. They can work closely with a physician to work with patients under the age of 18 (study.com, pg.1). You may also find that they may have a different dress code than the rest of the nurses at the hospital or whatever practice setting they choose. To be successful…

As a certified nursing assistant (CNA) this application does represent a career change for me. For almost four years, I have been blessed to work at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on 8Tower with such an amazing group of people. My coworkers have become such a pivotal part of my life and have taught me much more than any class of sorts could teach me. While on 8Tower, I was responsible for the activities of daily living commonly associated with being in the hospital. In addition to this, I was also responsible for gathering vital signs while also providing the utmost of care. Without of doubt this was the best part because it showed me the human aspect of medicine that most do not even get the chance to experience till later in life. Most…
