1. BACKGROUND OF THE SURVEY
The usage of computer, internet, smart phones and other related devices are now an integral part of our daily lives. With the exponential raise in technology, there is also a corresponding rise in Crimes specific to new technologies. The laws prevailing till 1999 proved to be inadequate to address the growing threat of the new realm of crimes in cyber space. Therefore, the Information Technology Act, 2000 came to be enacted. This Act was further amended in 2008.
2. NEED FOR A SURVEY
A need has been felt of understanding the level of awareness on the laws prevailing in the Cyber space, the reach of Cyber crimes and how inclined the people affected by Cyber crimes are to put the Cyber Crime prevention machinery into motion.
This is a report on a survey conducted from 1st November, 2013 to 10th November, 2013. The Survey was designated to provide information about the state of awareness regarding Information Technology and Crime Prevention.
3. METHODOLOGY ADOPTED FOR THE SURVEY
This researcher invited responses from 10 people, mostly junior Advocates practicing in the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay and students aged between 20 to 30 asking them to answer to a standard Questionnaire intended to throw light on their general awareness of the Laws of Information Technology and any personal encounter with the criminal aspects in that realm.
Inorder to encourage Respondents to come open on their personal experiences of cyber crimes, this Researcher gave them an option of remaining anonymous. They were asked to disclose only their first names and age. They were also informed about the objective and purpose of the Survey. This report gives the overall findings, based on
