What is a database: A database is a group of data that has been organised in a table or group. This makes it easy to find data, but also allows you to not have any duplicates in a group. A database is used in a school or college to store students date of births. This allows the school to be able to see how old the students are. The database can also be password protected to keep the data safe.

What is a flat file database: A flat database is where you have all your data in one table. This not good if you have two people with the same name as you can have a duplicate. Also, a flat database is long and tedious because say if you were a school and you were enrolling students, you have to write each person's name, date of birth, gender, and much more information. If two or more people have the same name then this is classed as a duplicate and can get very confusing. If you are enrolling 300 new students then a flat file is not the best option and you should use a relational database. …show more content…
This will allow you to different data so you do not have any duplicates so each piece of data is different. Schools, colleges, and theme parks could use a relational database so that they never have duplicates. Also, it makes inputting data a lot.

Overall a relational database is widely used in schools, organisations, companies, theme parks and the list never stops. I would recommend this type of database for anyone who has a lot of people attending or working at a place. This will stop duplicates. A flat file is not recommended as it takes a long time to enter the data and duplicates are most likely going to occur, which will lead to confusion and you will be unable to know who is who in the duplicate.
