What is Relationship-Based Care Model Relationship - based care model is a model of care in which the patient and family are the central focus. This model is a way of being that focuses on three relationships: with patients and families, with colleagues, and with the self. Unlike other healthcare models, relationship-based care model expands in scope as an organization-wide model to include all disciplines and services (Guanci, 2016).
This model has seven dimensions that all surround the patient and family. This includes;
• Caring and healing environment - where communication and a healthy work environment is important and the organizational culture supports self-care and patient’s number one concern are identified (Guanci, 2016).

According to Wessel, (2016), an effective manager is who empowers their staff members to lead a meaningful change through shared governance (Wessel, 2016). In an effort to encourage staff participation and engagement, management leaders will start a shared governance structure such a participatory decentralized model that will strengthen authority and accountability for decisions at the point of care. In addition, the team leader will create a professional nursing development committee to support professional growth and development, as a vehicle to superior patient care through evidenced-based learning (Cropley, 2012). The leadership will support the staff engagement with the implementation of the relationship - based care model through in-services, staff meetings, questions and answer sessions, and dissemination of important tools for improved patient care quality and satisfaction, such as rounding and care collaboration.
