“The starting point for the novel was the image of two boys divided by a fence,” he recalls. “I knew where the fence was, I knew it was a place no one should be, let alone two children, but I was interested in the journey that would bring them there, the conversations they would have and the necessary end I felt their story would reach

Would it have been as effective if he’d used adults? Explain. (20 pts.)
I think that he used a kid because they don't really know what being grateful and how Bruno can't put two and two together to know that it's a camp and how there are prisoners there. And you can really tell how grateful shmuel is just to be eating something and to be alive. But if it was a grownup he could just leave out-with.

Explain how the mood and tone of this book change from beginning to end. You may reference your notes in your interactive student notebook. (50 pts.)
At first Bruno has all these friends and they have a good time. but as it goes through the story it has its highs and it has it lows but mostly lows. and by the end of the story Bruno dies and his parents and his sister are trying their hardest to look for them but they cant find him because they don't know he is dead. so it goes from haveing a great time with all your friends to mourning in pain because your son, baby, your brother just died, you died.

If anyone turns on the television to a major league baseball game, it is easy to notice the players’ gloves. Many professional baseball players have two favorite brands of gloves. Some prefer a Wilson gloves and others prefer a Rawlings glove. Both gloves are made with tremendous quality, so basically it comes down to which glove the player would rather use. After using both gloves; I prefer to use a Wilson glove. Although many people think of Wilson and Rawlings gloves to be similar, they are actually different because of the type of leather, the price, and the inner and outer lacing.…

He conveys these ideas through techniques such narrative voice, dramatic irony, juxtaposition, setting and symbolism. In the end of the book, the author states that “Of course this happened a long time ago and nothing like that could ever happen again. Not in this day and age” Boyne refers to the current conflicts and issues currently happening, and implies that these events are still being mirrored. This scene is very touching as the two characters drink wine and snack on mozzarella. "Let's forget everything, let's get drunk," says Antonio to his son. "We'll eat and be happy for now." Through the food, drinks, and cheerful songs, the two try to forget their problems of the day. This is a scene that everyone can relate to; when you are having a bad day or a bad time in your life, you want to go out and just forget, even if it's for a moment. Bruno keeps looking self consciously at a rich young boy dressed in black who sits near by. This young boy returns his glances with a snotty look. "Eat, eat, don't worry," Antonio says to his son. This scene demonstrates that even in childhood, it is hard to escape from the current conditions. As we saw in the earlier scenes, Bruno is responsible for many things at a very young age. He helps his father clean his bike, closes the window for the baby, and remembers to say goodbye to his mother. Bruno is a character of the middle class. He is not as hopeless as the two children panhandling on the street; one who receives a swift kick from Antonio's fellow employee. However Bruno is not as well off as the young boy at the restaurant. He is stuck in the middle, which is very frustrating because slipping into poverty seems so easy to do while becoming well off seems so far…

Author John Boyne has written this novel in a style that is designed to inform and educate those of us with little knowledge of the events in World War Two and bring a better understanding of what was happening in camps all over Europe. Instead the history has been skewed and almost romanticized by telling the story through the eyes of a character that is both unbelievable and inaccurate.…

The point of view is the most interesting and important narrative convention of this novel. It is written in third person limited mostly from Bruno, the young boys, perspective. This means it does not use ‘I’ or ‘we’ but we do get to find out what the main character is thinking and almost the entire story is centred on him. Boyne has set this novel in a time and place where horrific and terrible things are happening, things so awful that Bruno’s family does not tell him anything about them. This all helps the reader feel a connection to Bruno, and also feel sympathy for him as he cannot understand the horrors occurring all around, and eventually to, him.…

I chose this text because it demonstrates how people can change perspectives no matter what race, religion, economic status or appearance. This text explains how people should view others instead of just reading a book by its cover. It also shows how far people are willing to change their perspective on others an example of this would be, when Leigh is around her friends. They are worried that Leigh is taking Michael in at a rapid…
