Friendships made in elementary school or middle school can only last in high school if the friends stay in the same city, their interests remain the same, academic performances are given the same priority, and maturity levels develop at the same rate. Scott’s best friends from middle school are Mitch, Patrick, and Kyle. Scott wishes that they remain friends forever as he calls them “Three Musketeers.” Scott is not in the same classes as his friends. He has honors and college prep classes and they all have tech prep classes. Mitch gets a girlfriend and has no time for the others. Patrick moves to Texas and then is relocated to Japan because of his father’s work. Kyle, who others think is tough when actually he broke his nose falling off a rocking horse, stands up for his “bookworm” friend early on in their freshman year but gets on the wrestling team and soon ignores Scott. Once Kyle joins another group he no longer wants to maintain a friendship with Scott because they have different social status in high school. Scott does make some new friends in high school. An inadvertent friend is Wesley Cobble, a tough senior who in the beginning of…

As I was reading these chapters, Morrie talking about regrets had me start thinking about my regrets. A feeling I was getting that my past choices I made were very poor. My life could have been so much different if I had made better choices. I think that Morrie is right, today society does not encourage us to think about our regrets and that we need someone to point us to the right direction. Someone that will guide us along, advising us to not make the mistakes they made in their lives. Mitch already has this person, its Morrie. My prediction is that by the end of all Tuesday visits, Mitch will be a whole new person. Morrie will help him and make him realize that success in life is not just about making a lot of money. Morrie will explain to him how it is like to be on you death bed knowing you will die any day. Looking back on your life and realizing how everything turned out and that your life still is not over.…
In the new book that my class and I have been reading, Freak the Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick, the relationship between two friends is very strong. Max and Freak, are the main characters in the story and they are the best of friends maybe because they know how to help each other and have a great time together. Freak moves into the house next to Max’s , and Max does not know how to feel about Freak at first. Then they talk more and they grew into friends very quickly. They solve mysteries, go in “quests”, and solve problems no one was able to solve before. In this story, Freak and Max have become friends very quickly and they are always together, at school, at home, and even when they are doing things with their families. From how Max puts it, he never had a brain until Freak came along. Freak is a genius yet small, but Max calls himself dumb and giant, so they make the smartest, biggest being together. Freak helps Max with everything that has to do with school and learning, and Max helps Freak get around…
All three, Meg, Charles Wallace, and their new found friend, 14 year old Calvin O'Keefe, fit the average misunderstood characteristics found in many fairy-tale and teen stories. While both Calvin and Charles Wallace are misunderstood by most, Charles Wallace at least has the support of a loving home, with preoccupied parents. Calvin, on the contrary, has no one to understand and appreciate him. "The funny part of it" he says, "is that I love them all and they don't give a hoot about me I care, but nobody else does" . All three children, each with his or her own special individual qualities, strive to get along in their world. The boys don't seem to care much what others think, only Meg, with her many imperfections, flounders from day to day.…
Morrie and Mitch met on a total of fifteen Tuesdays to discuss a new topic each week. Morrie had a lifetime of wisdom to give and Mitch came to the realization that he had an innumerable amount of questions to ask about life. Morrie once told Mitch, "Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live (Albom 82)." Morrie ironically relished the knowledge that death brought to him. Though his life was at its end, the fact that Morrie could see the important things in life more clearly than ever because of it fulfilled him. He took the time he had with his precious wisdom to keep teaching as he had for his entire…
Through Raymond Carver's Novel, ‘What We Talk About When We Talk About Love,’ the narrator Nick first introduces his buddy Mel McGinnis. Ironically, Mel happens to be a cardiologist, we soon learn that although Mel works on hearts which always are related back to love, he knows little to nothing about love. Through Nick we are introduced to his wife Laura, whom have been together for a total of eighteen blissful months. Then there is Mel and his wife Terri who seem to be over the infatuation stage of their marriage and though they have been married for four years, they don’t seem to know a thing about true love due to their past experiences whether it have ben an unsatisfying marriage or an abusive ex-boyfriend. The two couples sit around a…
Mitch Albom had that second chance that many of us don't get. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man's life. Knowing he was dying, Morrie visited with Mitch in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to do back when Mitch was in college. They rekindled their relationship and Morrie shared his insights again with Mitch, one final time.…

Their polite, yet complicated relationships are confusing, but without connections of any kind, these characters wouldn’t even be able to live in the same building. As Dr. Dan Siegel said, “Relationships are the defining feature of being human.” Without relationships, humans would be below animals. Wolves, some birds, and even lizards run monogamous lives. They understand, in a way, what love is, and that love is…
The relationships in this movie are very moving. Hasari runs his rickshaw through a monsoon to provide for his daughter's dowry, while Max defies the local godfather by staying in India to be with his friends and patients. Joan gives freely of herself to the patients in her clinic, day in and day out. By the end of the movie, the relationships established in this movie are unselfish, giving and stable.…
Throughout the early stages of Morrie’s life, he lived in constant fear. His mother passed away at a young age due to illness, and his father was not there for him as much as he should of been. But as Morrie progressed through his life, he realized that his past would not change his mind set. He knew he wanted to live a life that at the end he could say he enjoyed. On the fourth Tuesday, Morrie tells Mitch, “Most of us all walk around as if we’re sleepwalking. We really don’t experience the world fully, because we’re half-asleep, doing things we automatically think we have to do.” This brings Mitch right back to when Morrie tells him “Once you learn how to die, you learn…
