Relativity of Young and Old
1. Explain the relativity of “young” and “old” There are many similarities as well as differences between the elderly and young adults. The most common factor in both of these groups it seems is the overwhelming ability for being narrow-minded Young adults as well as the elderly both think they know everything If you listen to the elderly many do become wise but many others seem to get stuck in their past On the other hand young adults readily accept changes in their world Thanks to the Internet today’s younger generation knows quite bit more than their grandparents knew at the same age because of this Another evident contrast between the elderly and the youth is their outlook on life. Young adults are more optimistic about the future The elderly tend to be more pessimistic You will hear from the majority of young adults, I will be rich someday but an older adult will say, Money is not everything Older people seem to get set in their ways and typically resist change. The elderly get comfortable with a certain pattern in their lives and do not like this pattern disturbed Young adults on the other hand are much more adaptable to change What it all comes down to is time, experience and most of all the willingness of old and young alike to learn and share with each other. I know I can learn much from my elders, I hope they see that they can learn much from me

What is ageing?. Aging is the accumulation of changes in a person over time. Ageing in humans refers to a multidimensional process of physical, psychological, and social change. Some dimensions of ageing grow and expand over time, while others decline. Reaction time, for example,

While this study has demonstrated the extent of ageism in East Tennessee, it does not necessarily demonstrate how society should combat it. As a result, future research should be conducted to reveal the most effective means of eliminating ageism. Furthermore, additional research should be performed on other populations and more representative samples, such as from different age groups, ethnicities, and socio-economic statuses. Data from other countries or cultures (i.e. where the elderly are embraced) may be useful in demonstrating to Western societies the benefits and importance of elderly citizens. Furthermore, information from a variety of populations will provide a more all-encompassing view of the topic of ageism and will perhaps pinpoint a better approach to fighting it. Additional studies should make use of both quantitative and qualitative methods. It would be interesting to compare the results from an open-ended interview or case study with those from a laboratory study. By utilizing mixed-methods, the field of gerontology is exposed to a more comprehensive view of…

Henry David Thoreau’s point of view on the elderly, based on a passage from Walden, is almost completely false. To say that the elderly have no worthy advice to give the young is absurd. While younger generations will always advance themselves further in technology and life, they cannot do this without the help of their seniors.…

Ageism is defined as prejudice and discrimination against old people. Schafer writes that for the ageist, elderly persons reflect the image of disease, death, and dying as well as a reminder that we all be old one day (2012,pp. 395-396). Another stereotype of the elderly is that they are slow and mentally dysfunctional. All of this is further emphasized by society’s fixation with youth.…

Ageism is the prejudice and discrimination against the elderly. (pg. 395 racial and ethnic groups) Society view the elderly as disease and death and ends up glorifying youth as the ideal thing to be. Most middle age people are upset to be getting older because of these stereotypes about the elderly. 84% of people over the age of 60 have been subjected to ageism whether it was at a job where they were looked at as a liability or just in society itself. Some elderly people deal with discrimination from people who are afraid to get old and see the elderly as a reminder of what they are going to deal with. (pg. 395-396 racial and ethnic groups)…

Ageism involves others being prejudice or discriminating against the elderly. There is so much discrimination of different groups of people. This affects the diversity in society, because it is as though the elderly is their own group. We are not meant to be the same and we do have to eventually pass on. We should really be looking at them as an important piece of history that we have. This group makes the up and coming younger generation grow in an uncomfortable way with having to watch the elderly pass on so quickly. Our elderly numbers are growing each day and this can make their numbers higher than over groups in society.…

Many adults and some of my classmates have dismissed my thoughts on higher level thinking such as philosophical ideas, spirituality and politics, because I am said to be too young to comprehend what they are discussing. Age has been an excuse to let children slack off in school work or other aspects of life. Age should not be used as a description but as reminder of the years God has granted you to tell the world about his great love. “There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.” ― Sophia Loren.…

Ageism refers to how the elderly are discriminated against in many areas of their life. Ageism has a very big influence on the presence of diversity in a society because the elderly are the ones suffering from it. They are viewed as not healthy, not physically fit, or too slow to perform their jobs. Many people do not realize that many elderly people can work harder and faster than some young people that work today because of their experience and knowledge from working so many years. Many elderly know short cuts to get the job done fast and easy with efficiency.…

Late Adulthood is a time in people’s lives when they come to terms with their lives and reevaluate what they have done or accomplished in the lieu of what they still would like to accomplish for the remainder of their lives. During this stage of life adults around the ages of 65 begin to experience a variety of changes in their physical appearance and a decline in their health. The process of aging in an individual occurs at different speeds and during this stage older adults are being treated as second-class citizens especially by younger adults. The skin begins to wrinkle at an accelerated rate, the senses lose their acuity, and the voice becomes less powerful. Other physical changes occur like the loss of teeth, bones become brittle, joints become stiff, and the graying of hair.…
