Executive Summary
Arctic Combustion Limited realizes that the ability of a heating and cooling plant to operate safely and productively is highly dependent upon the integrity of the boilers. In this business case, we enquired the opportunity of multiple-year preventative maintenance plan for utility boilers. The scope includes various sizes of fire-tube and water-tube boilers firing natural gas at a rate of 400,000 BTUH or higher. The target customer base includes but is not limited to hospitals, universities, large buildings with central heating and cooling systems. As a part of the project we presented a systematic approach to implement a

Throughout time people have believed that others are motivated by just basic needs and rewards/punishments. However, in the book Drive by Daniel H. Pink, Pink claims that people are not just motivated by basic needs and rewards/punishments. They are also motivated intrinsically. Pink quotes scientist Bob Wolf, “Wolf uncovered a range of motives, but they found that enjoyment-based intrinsic motivation, namely how creative a person feels when working on the project, is the strongest and most pervasive driver” (Pink 21). In this quote Pink proves his point by citing a scientist that has states that intrinsic motivation is the not only a motivation, but the strongest motivation. People are motivated by internal rewards, what is enjoying to them. Pink also claims…

In general there is a good level of compartmentation within the front of house areas of the building over the first two floors (public areas), currently due to breaches in external walls to the auditorium there is now a risk to the internal staff working within the two main office spaces over the upper two floors, this new risk requires the installation of two new temporary walls. The high degree of separation in FOH areas balanced by the very large open auditorium space and roof void create a risk rating of medium/high due to the ever changing risk from site works. Upon completion of the recommendation of compartmentalisation of the roof void and along with making good all minor/medium breaches in fire doors and…

At the end of 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) passed several new laws and regulations that are vast and significant, and which place much stricter limits on the emissions of coal-fired power plants. The laws include amendments to the Clean Air Act (CAA) and Clean Water Act (CWA) which primarily limit the emission of sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxides. The new standards will force utilities to make large modifications to their fleet in order to remain operational and competitive. To remain successful in the face of these challenges, DTE must stay on top of the new regulations and act proactively. This report reviews these regulations and the accompanying consequences, and makes recommendations that will help DTE decide how to act in its best interest and in the best interest of its customers.…

The emergency services (Police, Fire and Ambulance) have to respond to all emergency situations, but they have different roles and responsibilities and they have graded response policies. All emergencies are graded by the call handler according to the information from the caller and not by the way the incident is reported. If a caller dials 999 believing an incident is an emergency the call handler will assess the information and then decide whether it is top priority or if the incident does actually require an emergency response. Call handlers work under the supervision of team managers and incident managers.…

Fire prevention programs and education are an important part of keeping a community safe. The more educational opportunities that are available the better the chances are that there will be less accidental fires or lives lost in a community. While growing up not all children are raised the same way and this can lead to certain deficiencies in a variety of areas of education. Many parents may not think to education their children about fire safety or give them any insight into the importance of fire safety and the possible dangers associated with fire. This same idea should be applied to industries in the community. There are many hazardous and dangerous materials and activities that happen in day to day work activities. Inspectors working with companies throughout the community can ensure that they are taking the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their workers safe.…
