Whilst acknowledging the strategies in place, I graded their effectiveness and considered the human and environmental impacts. I investigated the issue concerning coastal erosion by doing some firsthand work at Collaroy Beach and Long Reef and by some secondary research. Some of the first hand work included calculating the slope of the sand and some of the secondary source included comparing old photographs with more recent ones and also doing some internet research. I believe that some of my alternatives to slow down and even…

There are many issues that people face living on the coastline of Terrigal and Wamberal beaches and the natural features around it. Many groups or people have tried to manage these issues, such as the government, local community groups and owners of many of the houses on the coastline Terrigal and Wamberal beaches are affected by many natural factors, such as wind, water, waves, But also man made factors such as housing, infrastructure, litter, and use of the land surrounding these areas. One issue that is stated above is the happening of erosion on the sand dunes and rocks on the coastline of Terrigal and Wamberal. Some people have caused more pressure on these areas as they have built housing such as at Stop 7, “The Ruins” Wamberal South. Many of the people that lived on the beach have tried to find ways to stop most of the erosion from waves and wind affecting their land and housing. On the beach we saw many strategies that are effective in their own ways but not permanent. One way was to plant vegetation on the sand dune, this has effect as the roots try to uphold the sand from being washed out but can also have its down side as it won’t…

We are a plague of negative energy consumers and we will continue to remove ourselves from the reality of environmental humiliation if it means we can still enjoy our material devices, and our complicated obsession of hurting mother nature. The world’s energy consumption has escalated firmly since the industrial boom of the 1800s and will continue to rise as long as we hold a place on this planet or as long as our planet contains the ability to sustain our humanitarian pressure. Presently, the vast majority of our energy consumption is provided by coal or natural gas, but due to the limited supply of resources, the constant production has driven oil and gas prices up. With exhausted traditional natural gas sources, entrepreneurs set out to…

However, they must also understand they can only do so much, and some of what they do may even make matters worse (Singer, 1999). Coastal Erosion is a huge problem today and is causing our beaches to get smaller and smaller every year. Coastal erosion is also causing the coast lines to recede and therefore taking away space for which people build on. Even though coastal erosion causes issues it is also the effect of something, Humans! Nature has a way of keeping the world in balance, it creates things such as barrier islands and sand dunes to help protect against costal erosion. However, humans play a big part in messing up that balance by creating man-made structures that actually increase the damage of coastal erosion rather than preventing it. Some of these structures such as groins, jetties, breakwaters and seawalls, when used properly can help. Unfortunately, in most cases they are used improperly and cause more damage than they do to help. With this being said, there needs to be laws or guidelines put in place to implement the proper use of these structures to reduce the effects they have on coastal erosion.…
