Religious Themes In Religious Art
Artwork featuring religious themes is extremely beautiful and meaningful. When religion is portrayed through art there is rich symbolism and iconography. Because religious art is so important I decided to use such works in my exhibit, each piece is a wonderful representation of religions in art. All the artwork I chose had to fit the theme of world religion in art, so I found art that displayed world religions. I found a myriad of different artworks from different religions. For example, the statue of the Goddess Pratyangira made in the 12th century by the Chola Dynasty is important to many Hindus. The statue has the body of a woman and the head of a lion, and to Hindus this goddess “is considered to be a powerful repellent of the influences

I chose this art because of the importance it has to Hindus, and because Hinduism is such a large religion it needed to be represented. The other artworks I chose such as The Star of David made by Jarosław Modzelewski in 1980 were chosen because of their religions influential history. The artwork chosen to be displayed at my exhibit speak of the deep love humanity has for its deities. Most of the artwork comes from the same time period except a couple that comes from the 20th century. Most came along during the Renaissance or right after. The Head of Christ, for example, was created during the Italian Renaissance. This work shows the suffering of Jesus on crucifixion day. This work of art created by Correggio (Antonio Allegri) in sometime around 1525-1530 AD perfectly displays the art of the Renaissance. The artwork portrays a very important event to billions of Christians around the world. In conclusion, because religion is so important I displayed it in my art exhibit.
