Remember That We Suffered: A Humoral Analysis
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a show I absolutely adore, but for the purposes of this humor analysis, I’ll stick mostly to the three musical clips we watched in class. In Remember That We Suffered, Rebecca goes home for a Bar Mitzvah and feels suffocated by the Jewish community. At the same time, her decidedly non-Jewish boyfriend at the time, Josh (it’s complicated), absolutely loves the celebration. That’s where this song comes in — it occurs solely in Rebecca’s head. To her, the song’s lyrics are the subtext of the party. While everyone is dancing and singing, she’s hearing criticism (“you have no idea what pain is”).     The enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) catalyzes the last step of anaerobic glycolysis that is important for the normal function of the body. Purification of LDH is essential to understand its structure and function. The purpose of this experiment was to extract and purify LDH enzyme from chicken muscle tissue using a variety of various. Analytical methods such as activity and protein assay were employed to determine the presence and purity of LDH. The cells were initially disrupted and proteins were solubilized. LDH was purified from the ammonium sulfate precipitated protein mixture by affinity chromatography and its activity was studied by spectrophotometric determination of NADH at 340 nm. From Pierce BCA assay of crude homogenate, initial protein concentration was shown to be 100 mg/ml. The final protein concentration of the pooled affinity sample was shown to be 0.2 mg/ml. It was found that the total specific activity of LDH was 58.5 µmol/min/mg, and yield of 0.6%. Even though we were successful in purifying LDH enzyme, further steps can be taken to increase the yield.…

Kaplan, published in 1998, gives us a portrait of Jewish life in Nazi Germany by the astounding memoirs, diaries, interviews with survivors, and letters of Jewish women and men. The book is written in chronological order of events, from the daily life of German Jewish families prior to when the Holocaust began to the days when rights were completely taken away; from the beginning of forced labor and exile to the repercussion of the war. Kaplan tries to include details from each significant event during the time of the Holocaust. Kaplan tells us the story of Jews in Germany not from the perception of the Holocaust, but by focusing on the persecutors from the confused and vague viewpoint of Jews trying to direct their lives on a day to day basis in a world that was becoming more and more insane. Kaplan shows us that the Holocaust was impossible to predict exactly because Nazi oppression occurred in random and impulsive steps until the massive violence of November 1938. Between Dignity and Despair focuses on the destiny of families and mostly women’s experience, taking the reader into neighborhoods, kitchens, shops, schools and it gives us form and consistency.
