My name is Jennifer Mast when I was three years old my sister was born when she came out the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck three times she was dead, but they brought her back to life after that she had seizures every three minutes of the day she had spent a lot of time in the hospital and so did I. when she had turned five years old we drove to California so my sister could get half of her brain removed so the seizures would stop. As a eight year old child does I asked the doctors and nurses plenty of questions I even asked what they were going to do with her brain and if I could see it. Watching the doctors and nurses work on my sister at such a young age helping to save my sisters life made me want to pursue a job in nursing ever since I was a young girl. I want to help people and their families like they had helped us. So I begun in high school I attended vocational school to become a nurses aid. I have been a nurse aid for seven years. I have also been a med-tech for the past three years. I have worked in different fields as a nurses aid. I have worked in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home health care. They all were very enjoy able jobs. I would make a go licensed practical nurse because I care about people wants and needs and I am compassionate about the job I do and how its done. To heel some who is sick or injured or just a family member who needs someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on I am always there to help. The reward of making someone else who needs help feel better is a feeling you cant explain it makes you feel like you have done your job to make someone else have another day in the world of life. Learning new things in the medical field interest me and the more I can learn the better. When I watch television I watch different medical shows think Its amazing how they save peoples lives and I wish I could do that to. So I am taking a step up the ladder in the medical field so I can enhance my knowledge and in the…
The healthcare industry is one of the few career fields that, despite hard economic woes, is hiring at an alarming rate. Healthcare jobs are expected to grow faster than any other industry-roughly 22%, or 3.2 million new jobs, by 2018 (Healthcare Occupaions). As the medical field advances, career opportunities in healthcare become increasingly diverse. The top two most in demand jobs are a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) and a Registered Nurse (RN) (Perry). Although both of these jobs are similar in which they both serve the needs and care of patients they are distinctly different in education, job responsibilities, salary, and career opportunities.…
His desperation of aid became my nightmare and a lesson. From then on, I wanted to devote myself to a career to gain the skills and knowledge that can help me save a life. I wanted to be a part of a team who shares the same values as mine, to provide the best care possible to their patients. I just want to become an individual that can help ease the process. Whether it’s to the patient or their loved ones.…
So originally I did not pursue the idea of nursing, I actually went into college thinking I was going to be a local high school teacher and wrestling coach, so I went and got my degree in Art Education, but while I was in college, I started working as a transport orderly at San Jose Medical Center before it closed, then went to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where I started working as an Emergency Room clerk, and moved up to an Emergency Room Technician and loved the hands on with the patients. This is where I decided that teaching may wait till I retire from nursing, and nursing will become my career.…
I felt as though I knew every face that walked through the hospital doors. I watched as nurses provided passionate care to their patients. However, it wasn’t until members of my own family fell ill that I knew the career path that was meant for me. When my grandfather lay miserable in the hospital bed, I could not help but be touch by the compassionate staff that helped nurse him back to health time and time again. I came to the cessation that I would aid people the same way I feel my father had during his service in the Air Force, but I would do it from a…
My name is Tina Connor and I’m thirty four years old I was born here in Chicago. For the last seven years I have worked for the United States Post Office. The reason I would like to become a C.N.A. is because it will be the first step at achieving my goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. Once I receive my certificate I will be able to take my state board and enroll into the nursing program at Dabney University. With my certificate I will be able to work in hospitals, nursing homes, and provide home health care. Upon receiving my training I will be able to help my grandmother who is ninety six years old with more safe and quality care. My grandmother was my guardian she had to retire early to raise me from birth so I would like to be able to assist her as much as possible in her time of need (golden years). My grandmother would be so proud of me to get a degree that I should have obtained years ago since I graduated with honors and had a full scholarship to attend college. I didn’t know how important a college degree was at the time and we all make mistakes. I truly care about the well-being of others and enjoy being able to make a difference in the patient’s lives. I want to accomplish something important in my life, as a C.N.A. I will have the opportunity to make an impact in not only the lives of the patients that I help, but also their friends and families. While suffering from an illness, disease or disability the patient’s lives will be more comfortable, and it can be a very rewarding experience. Utilizing my skills and being dependable will also make a difference for the nursing team. The ladder only…
With the healthcare industry growing every year and with the long term projections expected to continue growing steadily, you can’t go wrong choosing a career as a certified nursing assistant. The demand for nursing is skyrocketed over the past decade. Most importantly for younger people that are into helping elderly people. CNA are responsible for all things that deal with elderly persons giving them food to eat, making sure there environment is safe and clean, monitoring there health and transporting them to places. I personally look up to CNAs because there something like a police officer or firemen they help more than a little and some people don’t understand what they do. So in my report I will explain how and what a CNA does all the hard work they do in how they should feel so proud of themselves.…
My overall experience as a critical care nurse has contributed in my growth professionally and personally. I have given the field of critical care all that I have with great passion and respect, and yet I long to give more. In fact, my desire to becoming a Nurse Anesthetists, grew after…
I have had the opportunity to receive great encouragement from people in my life. This has led me to where I am today, which is the desire to become a medical assistant in a children’s hospital. Ever since I was a young girl, I have been interested in anything that is medical related. This goes from playing doctor to my dolls and friends, to becoming a certified nurse’s aide (CNA) at the age of 18. My mother is working towards her goal of becoming a registered nurse after overcoming breast cancer. I also have a cousin and a couple of aunts who are nurses whom I look to whenever I get frustrated with achieving my goal. When taking…
Hello everyone, My name is John Santiesteban and I’m currently a nurse. I am attending this class in order for me to achieve my masters in nursing. My enthusiasm for nursing first took root and flourished after losing my father. My father became very ill and needed medical care. When I saw that my father was starting to become weak and frail, I thought to myself "What access would my father have to good quality health care?" I asked my mother "Where is the nearest hospital?" and my mother replied, "It's about twenty miles away child." It was from that moment on I began to realize a desire to engage in a profession that focused on the area of helping sick people. After losing my father I made the initiative to start a new direction in my life to pursue a career in healthcare. So I decided to become a surgical tech to test my interest. After completing my certification, I was able to do a lot of hands-on work with sick…
I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is my patients’ first line of defense against illnesses as well as processes put in place by my place of employment. I became a nurse because I felt that everyone matter and that sometimes the sick and afflicted need someone in their corner.…
To me, being a nurse is far more than a job or career. It is a continuous learning process that I look forward to every day. I love the thought that I can wake up every day and help people. In order to be a great nurse, you must have many qualities that enable you to be a leader, an advocate, and a friend. It is a necessity to give quality care. Nurses have to have…
A mole is just another common mark on the body, which everyone has, so what’s the big deal, right? Well, some are just common markings, while others can be life threatening. My family learned this all too well back in February of 2014. It’s never a perfect visit to the dermatologist when you get a mole removed from your head, only to find out after testing that it was positive for melanoma. I remember a minor surgery was performed on the neck and two lymph nodes were removed to be tested. Great news everybody, they were found to be cancer free! Now, stop and think how many lymph nodes are in your body.…
The little boy never spoke, he only pointed and smiled, with a sense of weariness but also joy and utmost resilience. We did a puzzle together every week. He began asking for me by pointing to my hair tie on his wrist and when he saw me, he would do the same. Playing with him gave me joy and I hoped it made as much of a difference to him as it did to me. I was afraid due to the uncertainty of his diagnosis. However, the tenacity I saw in him gave me courage too. As our play sessions went on, his hair started to grow and after almost a year, he left the hospital. On his last day in KKH, he finally spoke the first word he had ever said in the ward. It was ‘Bye-bye’ and it was to me. Meeting this boy reminded me of my love for children and my passion for a career in child psychology. He was one of the many kids I had met through CCF and Eden School, who I felt were going through struggles no child should have to face. I believe these children with physical illness, mental illness and special needs should be given all the support they need and I wish to be a part of…
We quickly left my grandparent's house and rushed to the emergency room at the hospital in Tupelo. The drive seemed like forever, but yet, we made the fifty mile trip in record time. Everyone in the family was put in a room for what seemed like ages. Finally, they emergency room nurse came in and said he was on life support but he was stable and could see him. They told us the machines were all that was keeping him alive and to prepare for the worst. We finally got to see him one more time. Together, we all went back there and that’s when we decided that he didn’t need to suffer anymore. So, the decision was made to take him off life support, and we prepared for the days ahead.…
