Looking at City Road and the street I know, it is clear that in society wherever you go, difference and inequality will always remain because of choices and constraints. Society is made and remade through the two way relationship between the individual and the society (Allen and Blakely, 2014, p. 52). Changes and continuities are part of the way that some individuals can change with the times and bring the changes that will benefit them, whilst some individuals are less fortunate and can not afford the changes, or it could be because because of age, race or a have a disability where constraints get in the way. Either way, looking at society today there are many different groups with difference and inequality, there will always be winners and losers because of the way society is made. I have written a few examples of this in my essay to explain what I have learned from TMA01 and TMA02 and what links can be made from City Road and the street that I know, New Road.…

At Perkins, my duties required me to multitask while being friendly, and assisting customers. I was the cashier and the host. My duties included checking people out, cashing customers out, and paying bills handed to me from waiters/waitresses. I also was in charge of greeting and seating guest as they came into the restaurant. I also stocked the bakery and the supplies in the pantry. In addition, I was responsible for vacuuming, washing windows, answering the phone, assisting servers, and cleaning restrooms. I usually was expected to do all of these things at once, often seating, cashing out, and cleaning by myself, making me experienced in multitasking.…

In summary, this report details the problems encountered with a member of staff working under my management whose attendance standards and working practices had started to slip. The session used was session 4 of Book 2 B120. Despite an appraisal system being in place and frequent discussions being had with the employee his attitude was impacting upon the other members of staff in the department. Using the notes from Book 2 session 4 the problem concepts observed are that no clear instructions had been set and any monitoring system utilised fully to best effect. The recommendations to overcome the issues would have been a structured meeting with the individual followed by better monitoring and reward/praise on follow-up over a monthly or weekly interval. Further support and training for the Manager in charge of the department would have lessened the impact on the whole department.…

Internal and external factors have a large impact on the four functions of management within an organization. What these factors are and the kind of impact they have depends on the business and its particular goals. McDonald’s goal is reflected in its mission statement which is to “be our customers’ favorite place and way to eat” (McDonalds, 2009). In order to achieve this goal, McDonald’s executives and managers must follow the four functions of management which are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Bateman and Snell, 2009). They must also understand how internal and external factors impact these functions. Internal factors that McDonald’s managers need to consider include the amount of food to be sold, the number of employees working at any given time, and the customer base of the restaurants. For example, if the company had a goal of selling two million hamburgers a day but only had enough meat for one million hamburgers, then that would mean the goal would not be met. To avoid this type of situation, managers must be sure to order enough supplies to meet the demands of customers and goals of the company. The same is true for the number of employees working at a given time. This involves the functions of planning and organization. The functions of leading and controlling are impacted by the staff and their work ethics. Quality staff members who have good work ethics make it easy for managers to control the way in which goals are met.…

For the purpose of this assignment, I have observed how employees do their tasks at three local stores; a small family run restaurant, a fast food restaurant, and a large-scale supermarket. I live in a decent sized city where there are many small restaurants, fast food chains, and large-scale supermarkets. Because there are several options for consumers, businesses need to make the most of their operations and materials management (OMM) processes to draw in as many consumers as possible, and to keep them as loyal customers.…
