Synopsis
The objectives of this experiment are to determine the tensile strengths and tensile modulus of different materials by using the modern tensile testing machine. General Purpose Polystyrene(GPPS), High Impact Polystyrene(HIPS), High Density Polyethylene(HDPE) and Polypropylene(PP) were the materials used as samples for this experiment. 3 specimens of each plastic were loaded into the machine and the average reading out of the 3 was recorded for more accuracy. Through this experiment, the plastic with the greatest tensile strength was GPPS with an average tensile

Hydroponics is a technique of growing plants without basing them in soil. Hydroponic systems have been used since ancient times; it is believed that the legendary Hanging Gardens of Babylon employed a technique of ‘flowing water’ to keep plants alive. Chinese and South American cultures appear to have used hydroponics in cultivating crops since around 1300AD (Turner. B. n.d.).…

The experiment observed the mechanical deformation process of different materials by three tests: tensile test, impact test, and fracture-toughness test. The materials evaluated in the tensile test were annealed 1045 steel, cold rolled 1045 steel, 2024-T4 aluminum and cast iron. 2024-T4 aluminum is concluded to be most ductile (25.7 % reduction in area) and cast iron the most brittle (123 MPa). Effects of cold rolling in 1045 steel are apparent, as it has the highest strength among the materials tested (402 MPa yield strength). Impact test measured the impact energy of 1045 steel, 2024 aluminum, polypropylene (PP), and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). This test also observed the effect of temperature on material ductility. The fracture-toughness test was performed on 2024-T4 aluminum to determine a KIC of 35.3 MPam. From the experiment, it was found that the brittle-ductile transition temperature of PP is between 0 0C and room temperature, whereas the transition temperature of 1045 steel is between 25 0C and 100 0C.…

The purpose of the Reflective Report is to foster an ability to reflect on their experience and consider ways in which their developing understanding of the theory, which underpins practice, can help them to develop an attitude of critical awareness of their own actions, values, motives etc, and also to the actions, values and motivations of others that they work with. Students complete a weekly reflective report during level 1, and a fortnightly reflective report during levels 2 and 3. A form is provided for this purpose, which can be found in the Practice Handbook or on the website (www.baywat.weebly.com) along with guidelines about how to complete this for each stage of the course. However, the following points should be noted with regard to reflective reports for all levels; • • • Reflective reports are submitted by email to tutors by 4.00pm on the Friday they are due. Late submissions will be counted as a fail. They are graded using the practice CAS scale. There is no specific word count associated with reflective reports but, as a guide, level 1 should cover 2 sides of A4, while levels 2 and 3 will probably require a further side in order to provide adequate evidence of reflective activity. However, quality is more important than quantity, and the main content of each Reflective paper should be within the ‘Reflective Comments’ section. In order to attain professional accreditation, at Level 3 all students must meet JNC Level 2 requirements (CAS 12 or above) for all their reflective reports. Students who do not meet these requirements but do pass (CAS 9 -11) can still graduate without JNC professional accreditation. No more than 5 reflective reports can be failed in any semester, or the practice will be counted as having failed for that semester. Students are permitted to resubmit each reflective recording once in order to meet the appropriate standard. Normally, practice would be made up during the summer, but students…

Tensile tests are fundamental for understanding properties of different materials, and how they will behave under load. This lab tested four different materials, including A-36 hot rolled steel, 6061-T6 Aluminum, polycarbonate, and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). Each material was tested three times using an Instron load frame and the BlueHill data acquisition software. The data from each test was used to determine valuable material properties such as ultimate tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and yield strength. Other calculated properties included true fracture strength, percent reduction of area, and percent elongation. These material properties were used for comparing the materials to each other, and to define the material as brittle or ductile. The true stress and true strain were calculated for one sample of 6061-T6 aluminum to show the difference between the engineering stress and strain, and the true values. The engineering stress is an assumption that uses the initial area of the cross section, ignoring the effects of transverse strain and the changing cross section. This assumption results in the drop of the engineering stress-strain curve after the ultimate tensile strength, where necking occurs. Using the values of the true strain, the true plastic strain was determined for one sample of Aluminum (Sample #2) by subtracting the contribution of the true elastic strain, as outlined in Appendix E. Plotting the logarithm of the true stress versus the logarithm of the true plastic strain allowed the plastic portion of the true stress-strain curve to be modeled by the Ramberg-Osgood model, as detailed in Appendix F. While the model did poorly at low plastic strains near yielding, it did an excellent job just before necking and the ultimate tensile strain. The results…

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) a bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement to achieve most positions in promotions, advertising, and management within the field of entertainment. The BLS also recommends courses that focus on business law, management, economics, finance, or accounting to be the most relevant courses in the field. Some universities offer business concentrations for entertainment management, such as California State University of Fullerton, and University of California, Los Angeles. The concentrations typically possess core courses, such as Entertainment Money Management, Entertainment Business, Entertainment Law, Entertainment Operations, and Tourism Management (Fraser & Tarantino, 2010). Most of these courses are very similar to their general management and marketing counterparts, but with an emphasis in either the media side or hospitality side of the entertainment industry.…

The objective of this CDIO experiment was to determine the mechanical property of polymeric materials which was the tensile properties .The testing standard to adopt for the tensile testing was ASTM D638. Four different types of polymers were placed into the tensile testing machine. The different specimens would then be stretched till it breaks. The tensile testing machine would give the information on the force that was required to stretch the different specimens until it breaks. The average reading of Tensile modulus of all four specimens tested range from 500.00 -1600.0N/mm2. The average reading of Tensile Strength and Yield Strength ranges from 21.000N/mm2 – 37.000N/mm2 and 22.000N/mm2 – 34.000N/mm2 respectively.…

    Tensile Strength Report

This experiment is to find out the tensile strength of different plastic materials. The four plastic materials used are General Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS), High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Polypropylene (PP). By using three samples from each plastic material type, we are able to obtain the mean tensile strength, mean tensile modulus and mean yield strength of each material. With this, the results is that PP is the most elastic among them, but the strongest material seems to be GPPS as it has the highest mean tensile strength and mean tensile modulus among the four different plastics. But GPPS did not yield at all as it does not have any crosslinks to favour elastic properties.…

The objective of this experiment is to investigate the behaviour of different material specimens under tensile test. The materials to be investigated are brass, 0.85% carbon steel, 0.1%carbon steel and aluminium. From this test we can determine young’s modulus, percentage elongation at fracture, percentage reduction in cross sectional area at fracture, strain at elastic limit, stress at elastic limit, ultimate tensile stress, strain at failure etc. This test is widely used in industrial sector to determine material’s properties. One example could be determining the ultimate tensile stress of a rope to check it can hold maximum weight.…
