Witness, directed by Peter Weir is an American film which combines a crime story with a love story, creating a dual narrative. The Amish element complicates the genres, which makes them both familiar and new. Good morning Mrs Goundar and fellow students. Peter Weir draws the audience into the world of film through various techniques to explore the clash of two worlds and forbidden love. Peter Weir has effectively conveyed the theme of clash of cultures by showing the power of loyalty within the Amish community in contrast to the deceit and betrayal which lies in the modern civilisation. Weir has also conveyed the forbidden love of Rachel Lapp, an Amish widow and John Book, an English policeman.…

Talcott Parsons saw socialization as the process through which, individuals developed and internalized a sense of norms and values. Parsons theorized that there were three stages of socialization, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary. After one has gone through these stages of development, an individual may go through a re-socialization process, and this happens in different stages through life, for example; they retire, become unemployed or institutionalized. Parsons noted that each stage of socialization had its’ own way of helping an individual internalize social norms and values.…

After having a job interview or an important talk with a friend, do you ever ask yourself “why did I shake his hand” or “I should have spoken more clearly and slowed down?” After watching Amy Cuddy Your body language shapes who you are, I believe the main purpose of the speech was to teach people a valuable tool while interacting with others. She emphasizes a lot about the way you present yourself and even the choice of posture you choose. While interacting with others, people gather personal opinions of you when they are observing and analyzing who you are. Thus being said a lot of the strategies she teaches you seem to work and are also backed up by real data.…

Prime Minister Julia Gillard says using the seal of the confessional to cover up child abuse is a "sin of omission" because all adults have a duty of care towards children. “It's not good enough for people to engage in sin of omission and not act when a child is at risk," she said. From this statement you can tell what I’m going to be talking to you about in this public meeting. My name is Justine Smith, and in the recent weeks, allegations of child sexual abuse by priests and other members of the Catholic Church have once again entered the spotlight of the media. Allegations that both child sexual abuse and institutional cover ups and investigations appear to be widespread and ongoing, the Federal Government has recently announced a Royal Commission into child sexual abuse. Confessions made to the priests are confidential and should not be allowed for the third person to know, as it is under the seal of confessions hence that it should never be broken. Everyone in this room has their own opinion about this issue but nobody has the right to tell priests what to do including myself. The confessional is red herring, so there is no proof of anything except for just simple words. Also for priests to betray the peoples trust and report it would cause less people to tell their confessions and that would just lead to further danger.…
