The essay “Those Unnerving Ads Using ‘Real’ Woman” was written by Meghan Daum, a novelist and essayist who publishes a weekly column to the Los Angeles Times. In this article the author emphasis that the "real" models are more appreciated rather than those women with imperfect body types in Dove “Real Woman for Beauty” advertising campaign. She claims that this commercial is not appreciated because Dove models are too closely related to ordinary women which make them feel uncomfortable when seeing this ad. The author supports her argument with interesting example of a bedroom which may be messy and ugly but represents intimacy and comfort. What she meant by this is that science models with unrealistic body types are generic, they do not invade…
"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" or "A Dead Man's Dream" is a short story by American author Ambrose Bierce. Originally published by The San Francisco Examiner in 1890, it was first collected in Bierce's 1891 book Tales of Soldiers and Civilians. The story, which is set during the Civil War, is famous for its irregular time sequence and twist ending. Bierce's abandonment of strict linear narration in favor of the internal mind of the protagonist is considered an early example of experimentation with stream of consciousness.[1] It is Bierce's most anthologized story.[2]…

Movements around the globe have stemmed from peaceful beginnings, and in the United States alone, many prominent peaceful movements have brought about some of the most prominent reforms put forth by the government. Being that no real results can be expected from mere picketing and passive proclamations from a megaphone, these demonstrations often break the law in some way, explaining where the label of disobedience comes from. Civil disobedience is an increasing practice worldwide, and it is proven to be exceptionally effective when put to the test against oppressive regimes, unjust laws, and stoic governments. It has been practiced by some of the most influential leaders of the civil rights movement in the United States such…
What do we usually do on Independence Day and Republic Day? Most of us sit at home and enjoy our holiday. Just because we are not in school anymore and no one expects us to be present for the flag hoisting, we don’t bother to attend it. It shows that we take the independence of our nation for granted. Our patriotism is only limited to joining ‘I love my Pakistan’ community…
Patriot Day is the most important holiday of the year because on this day, not only do we remember the people that were killed in the worst terrorist attack on American soil, we also honor those who serve and have given their lives in the fight against terrorism. On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked; two of the planes hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center, one hit the Pentagon, and the other crashed in a field in Pennsylvania (https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/patriot-day/). Nearly 3,000 people were killed in this horrific attack. The attack was done by a radical Muslim organization called Al-Qaeda. This is a day we should never forget because this attack was not just against the people that were killed but against our entire country. There are many important holidays but this is the only one that has united all of America and captivated the entire nation as a whole. It is also a National Day of Service and Remembrance where people honor veterans, soldiers, or first responders by giving them donations, care packages and writing thank you letters for them (http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/History-American/September11.shtml). I can honestly say that everyone that I have ever talked to about what happened on 9/11 knows exactly where they were and what they were doing on this day. This holiday brought us together as a nation in a way that no other holiday does today.…

The earliest May Day celebrations appeared in pre-Christian times, with the festival of Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers, and the Walpurgis Night celebrations of the Germanic countries. It is also associated with the Gaelic Beltane. Many pagan celebrations were abandoned or Christianized during the process of conversion in Europe. A more secular version of May Day continues to be observed in Europe and America. In this form, May Day may be best known for its tradition of dancing the maypole dance and crowning of the Queen of the May. Various Neopagan groups celebrate reconstructed (to varying degrees) versions of these customs on May 1st.…
