vendor value ratings
How do you decide which of the many IT vendors out there will provide the most value to your current initiatives? Our annual CIO Insight Vendor Value survey gives you all the information you need. See how your peers rate 40 major enterprise technology providers. By Guy currier

hat do you value most about your information technology vendors? There is no onesize-fits-all answer. Every enterprise has key performance metrics unique to its corporate culture and the industry it serves. However, over the course of more than five years spent examining how enterprises rate the value of their IT vendors, we’ve identified several universal factors that every organization must take into consideration in its vendor relationships. In July and August 2010, 684 IT decision-makers at U.S.-based enterprises responded to CIO Insight’s 2010 Vendor Value survey, designed, fielded and tabulated by Ziff Davis Enterprise Research. Of these respondents, 258 were from companies with at least

50 but fewer than 500 employees; 218 had at least 500 but fewer than 5,000 employees; and 208 had 5,000 employees or more. We asked respondents to rate the vendors they work with on eight measures. The first four of these are classified as “value” measures: • helping their customers increase revenue • helping them lower costs • ability to solve specific business problems • delivery of appropriate service or support levels (new this year). In addition, we asked respondents to rate their vendors on these three “reliability” measures: • product quality www.cioinsight.com iStockphoto

Based on the researched value of goods and services provided by the individual laptop computer vendors, an assessment can be made to layout vendor procurement consideration in reference to evaluation criteria and respective weight to the requirements. In this Benchmark, five vendors were reviewed and an individual value was determined as a raw score to each evaluation criteria entry. Vendors were evaluated based on product quality, product capabilities, known business experience, reputation and history, length of time the company has been in business, warranty terms, and estimated cost. Scores were based on a scale of one to five, with one being not very good and five being very good. Based on data collected, vendor consideration should be shown in order of preference in the following diagram.…

From reading the company profiles of potential vendors, I thought that I found the ideal company for my client. However, after gathering information from them all, another company presented itself as a serious contender; it now seemed tricky to pick one clear firm that would serve my client the best. Although both vendors provided services that met my client’s needs, the information gathering video guided me to carefully look at how they offered these services; there was a difference if it was one of their core offerings or if they contracted it out. One company used 3rd party applications for their services and did not seem as experienced as the other company. Also, one company had members work in the film and media industry, so they knew how to utilize video to maximum effect, while the other company just stated that they were familiar with common video based social media. Even though both companies offered the same services, I compared the quality and expertise and was able to choose to better…
