Thesis:
This report aims to explore the views of those who believe that the interpersonal risk factor should be the main factor that causes Anorexia and views of those who claim that social risk factor is the main factor that causes it among the teenagers.

Arguments (Write in note form)

Argument 1
Experiences of bullying, teasing, and criticizing due to body weight or shapes (appearance) – by family members or friends – lead to negative emotional consequences – low self-esteem (which mean not valuing or thinking well of onself) – poor-self image.

Argument from the other side
Wrong information is been projected to the teenagers – value people on the basis of physical appearance and not inner qualities and strengths – it makes people feel guilty and ashamed – causes low self-esteem and body dissatisfaction.
Argument 2
Having troubles with families – eg: divorcing, death – causes mood disorder – eg: anxiety or depression – feelings of lack of control, and being depressed, anxious, sad and lonely.

Argument from the other side
Jobs or activities that demands slenderness – eg: ballet, gymnastics, or modeling – causes the people to be perfectionism or overachievers – they tend to set strict, demanding goals or standards – anxious and feeling of lack of control – if they’re not perfect, they’re a total failure – lead to depressed, sad.
Argument 3
Having difficulties to express feelings and thoughts – family behavior – parents tend to be overly controlling, overprotective, strict, and achievement oriented – child abuse – eg: both physical and sex abuse – poor boundary

The pressure society places on young people to conform to the ideal body image has led to many adolescents developing stress-related eating disorders (The Open University, 2013, Unit 3, 3.4). There are three main eating disorders: Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and binge eating (The Open University, 2013, Unit 3, 3.6). Disordered eating is a mental illness in which the patient severely restricts their calorie intake. Although girls are mainly affected by anorexia a significant number of boys are also affected (the Open University, 2013). AN is quite different from BN giving sufferers of BN cause to overeat and then purge to make themselves sick,…

Anorexia victims may see being thin as the key to happiness and success. It is proven that television is a leading cause of anorexia. For example, in Fiji, “big women were considered beautiful. After the television arrived in 1995, Fiji girls began talking about diets. By 1998, Fiji girls said they felt ‘too big’ or ‘fat’”. Magazines and Billboards are another leading cause of anorexia. They advertise thin, beautiful models who always appear to be having fun. Stress is another cause of the disease, events in a person’s life can lead to anorexia. People with depression or low self-esteem are prone to anorexia, thinking that skinniness will solve all their problems (Graves, “Chapter Four”). Anorexia is a…

Why does the general public believe only women are victims of body image and eating disorders? Adolescent to adult males are dangerously preoccupied with the appearance of their bodies. The difference between men and women are men almost never talk openly about this problem. Society has taught them that they shouldn 't be concerned about how they look. But countless numbers of men are sacrificing important aspects of their lives to working out compulsively. This leads to distorted body images, which ties together with eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia (Adonis Complex.) The general public usually categorizes these disorders with women only. Women aren 't the only victims; men are suffering too, but just silently.…

The direct cause of AN is unknown, but through excessive amounts of scientific exploring, many researchers have concluded that anorexia is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors, categorizing it as a familial disease (Kaye et al., 2008). This positive correlation between gene-environment is often seen in offspring of parents who previously suffered from AN. They are seen as having a “double disadvantage,” as not only do they inherit the unidentified genes that increase the risk of AN, but they are exposed to an environment which increases the chances of the expression of those genes linked with anorexia (Bulik et al., 2005). This does not necessarily mean that all individuals who suffer from this eating disorder are predisposed to having AN, as the influence of environmental factors are much greater than that of genetic influence.…

I will give these to young adults from the ages of 15 to 35. This will serve as my means to find out just how much people of that certain age group know about the potentially deadly disease of anorexia. This research is not only to inform myself about anorexia, but also to inform myself about the knowledge or lack thereof that young people have about the disease.…
