The main research purpose of the survey “Smoke-Free Policy” was to measure the effectiveness of the smoke-free policy among the students which recently went into effect at Baruch College. The questionnaire which our project team designed and administered contained twelve questions including two demographic questions about the gender and the age range of the participants. We wanted to conduct the survey which will contain clear, balanced and well-structured questions and matched response categories to have a better response and coverage rate on the issues of smoke-free policy on the campus. The survey was conducted by Danielle Tumulty, Alona Chystyakova, Marc Fariello, Raymy Vasquez, and Abdul Shakoor. We used the Qualtrics System of Baruch College to create and administer the survey, and the link to the survey questions have been sent over the email to the fellow classmates in PAF 3105 course. The students were allowed one week to answer the questionnaire and submit their responses. The email invitation to participate in the survey was sent on Monday May April 15, 2013, and we closed the survey in a week on Monday, April 22, 2013.…

    3. The author’s purpose in writing this article is to persuade students, parents, and educators to have a new perspective about consumption of alcohol. The author presented emotionally negative facts about the consumption of alcohol. For example, “Each year, about 1,400 college students between ages 18 and 24 die of alcohol-related injuries, including auto accidents, alcohol poisoning and suicide”. This statement clearly takes one side of the debate about college drinking. As another example, “Before any such program can succeed, students must be convinced that binge drinking is not normal”. The author's tone is impassioned and pessimistic showing she has strong feelings and does…

One prominent issue that heightens the dangers of hookah is the steady rise in popularity. It is currently estimated that one hundred million individuals smoke hookah daily (Chaouchai p 800). Furthermore, hookah smoking has become an epidemic in college and affects the life of a large number of students. So it is appropriate that college students are kept informed of the harmful effects of hookah. A recent study revealed that the smoking of hookah is consistently increasing among college students (Primack p 81). For example, a survey created by Breathe California modeled the increasing rate of hookah usage in college campuses. A survey showed that forty percent of students had smoked hookah in the past two months. Later, the study revealed that in the subsequent six months, fifty eight percent of the students were smoking hookah (TobaccoFreeU p 1). This study proves the increasing rates of hookah smoking. Moreover, more proof that hookah is becoming more popular in college is a study created by the Annals Behavioral Science Journal, which stated that “ of the 647 respondents, waterpipe smoking was reported in 40.5%, over the past year in 30.6%, and over the past 30 days in 9.5%” (Primack 83). Thus, action…
