Jamaica is a beautiful Caribbean Island located in the North America continent. I chose Jamaica as my country because thats where my father is from. It is important to me to learn about my country. Jamaica is known for the beaches, spicy food and reggae music. However, this country is known for having a homicide rate (36.1: 100,000), which makes this country the top-five highest (per capita) homicide rates in the world. ( Jamaica 2017 Crime & Safety Report). Despite the negative aspects of Jamaica, I know this country is still a beautiful island. I've never visited but I do planned on visiting soon.

In 1494, on his second voyage to the West Indies, Christopher Columbus discovered Jamaica. It was settled by the Spanish in the 16th century. Reggae is a music genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s. It is also refer to Jamaican dance music (Origins of Reggae). Reggae is a combination of both elements of rock and soul music. Reggae is also played in the U.S. Jamaica dance are aspects of Jamaican life which represents the working class and generate feelings of joy and national pride. The dance moves was influenced from jazz, rhythm and blues movement (Jamaica Heritage). Jamaica popular dishes include curry goat, fries plantain and rice and peas. The styles in Jamaica for women consist of dresses or skirt and top which are constructed using calico fabric (Traditional Clothing in Jamaica). Calico is a lightweight fabric. Most of the clothing in Jamaica is handmade but villagers. Clothing for men consist of trousers and a short-sleeves shirt.
